minus one bag...{updated}

we made it back home last night
but
our bag decided to keep traveling
::
the girl behind the counter
who really didn't know anything
mumbled something about atlanta and detroit
even though we traveled through memphis
::
I hope our old black bag that looks like every other black bag
between here and tokyo
is okay
and
if it's not
my heart will go on
but
I'll sure miss my favorite pair of gap jeans
and
my north face sweat pants
that were inside
as
they were both at that perfect stage
of
yumminess
::
and
somehow
I know you know
exactly what kind of yumminess I mean
::
anyhow
maybe this happened as a test
::
a test of my patience
on this first day
of
2010
::
or maybe
just maybe
it's a test of my strength
to see if I'm strong enough to let go of things
that are just things
::
my
favorite
t-shirts~flip flops~panties~capris~
and
the above mentioned
jeans and sweat pants
::
well
guess what
I can't
::
I love my things
I need my things
I want my things
back
and
now
more than ever
I hate the airlines
and
because of them
my heart feels all cracky
::
somehow
this just isn't how I wanted to welcome in
2010
because
I really suck at tests
::
they just called from the airport
::
our bag was found playing in the detroit airport earlier today
unaccompanied
and
they don't allow that
you know
so they shipped it back to wisconsin
with a scolding
::
silly bag

  1. Oh no! I hope your bag makes it back safely. Any time this has happened to me, I got my bag back in 24 hours. So, there is hope!

  4. Hopefully, your old black bag that looks like every other one from here to Toyko will find its way back home....

    Because you need it and want all those old comforts inside.

    Here's to 2010 getting better for you from this moment on!

    Oh, and it's a good thing that you found YOUR WAY back safe and sound.

  6. Beth, I hope they find them for you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you....when I am not typing...that was too hard....lol...I know what yumminess in clothes in a big ole pair of pjs...Thankyou so much for my surprise. that was so thoughtful of you, and what you said in the card rally touched me! Those airlines better not fool around with your stuff or they will have to answer to me. Let us know. Glad you are home safe and sound.

  9. You're right. They're only things. But it's perfectly understandable why you'd miss them. They are some of your creature comforts. We all need creature comforts.
    They may turn up. So just wait. And if they don't, eventually you will let them go.
    Welcome home.

  10. it'll turn up. those people who went in the hudson got their bags back. it took 4 months, but their stuff was even all washed and returned to them. airlines don't really lose stuff permanently.

    happy new year, by the way!

  12. Oh I feel your pain. A few years ago one of our bags was stolen (I had my favorite boots, cashmere sweater and jeans.)...but we did get reimbursed and I got all new stuff...so the world did not end. Not a fun way to begin 2010...but it will work out.

  18. Congratulations on the return of the prodigal bag! Last spring coming home from Florida (after a 12 hour flight delay) our bags stayed behind. And now, when you fly, EVERYTHING is checked, isn't it. The only three days I didn't write in my regular journal or my gratitude journal this past year were those three days my bags were AWOL. Airlines can be very unsympathetic. I got my bags back, which had been left out in the rain, my journals had water damage but it just makes it part of the map of that journey. Happy New Year!

  21. I just happened upon you - and I am so glad I did. What beautiful pictures you have taken. I enjoyed reading several of your posts - very fun. The same thing happened to me - the airline misplacing my luggage- at least twice, and once to my sister when she was visiting me. They managed to locate it, eventually, and we were reunited a few panicky days and smelly clothes later.

  22. Wonderful Test...Silly Airlines.
    Now let the new year begin..In your favorite jeans.

  23. You know, lost luggage happens so much, it's just not right. But on a brighter note, I'm glad they called to say it was found. When they deliver to you, do a "happy dance."

  25. It always amazes me that, having flown hundreds of thousands of miles in my lifetime, to all corners of the globe, on some very strange airlines, sometimes with three connecting flights, a bag of mine has only been lost about five times. Of course, I've grown more sophisticated, putting name and address inside and outside, putting my outbound destination on things so they don't return the bag to my home - especially important if I'm on a trip of a month, ie, a cruise and really need that bag to reach me ), and also carry with me a list of what's in each bag ). I've always gotten my bag within a day or so...not bad considering all the passengers and all the bags out there. I even have my picture on my baggage tags - and, occasionally, some baggage handler, with a sense of humor and too much time on his hands, has given me a moustache an beard.

  27. Love your sense of humor. Maybe it was a test to see if you're ready to let go of the old..and welcome the new? And maybe..because you did so well...the old decided it could co-exist with what is new?!!?
    Happy New Year!! Best wishes to you and yours...

  28. Yummy jeans and sweats and panties, etc are parts of you on the outside - yes, you can live without them but losing them would still suck big time ! So glad the bag is back from galavanting! Wear those undies well ! ;)

    Be careful what you wish for...you knew you were gonna be tested! Patience is a toughie! (especially in traffic..I know all about the slow crawler that always always chooses my car to be in front of.)

    Oh how I love that heart you made of stones!!! I love love love that!
