enjoying the little things....

with this amazing weather, we took our first walk around "my pond" on sunday.
i was honestly surprised to see so many ducks, so early in the season.

the women were busy claiming their "nesting" spots
while the men were busy doing whatever it is they do.

it's funny how i can walk the same pond over and over and never get bored.

i mean really.
don't cattails fascinate you.
they don't. oh. well then you'd hate "my pond."
~
wait. they do.
well then you can come along with me on my pond walks any day.

doing the nasty....

last week i gave you lion porn. this week boxelder bugs porn.
you're welcome.

i took a new friend to "my pond" yesterday for the first time. i think she's in love with it, too.

why does this remind me of a palm tree in florida

it was just us two girls at the pond
but
we found this fungi to entertain us for a few minutes
{insert chuckle}

do you see what i see. those babies are so fast when startled. but i caught some of them.

oh mr. redwinged blackbird. i love you dearly.

turtle gymnastics. this is the balance beam and they were preparing for their dismounts.

i'm not sure what i love more. this pod or how cool the dried grass in the background looks.

you can never have too many redwinged blackbird photos.right.

oh spring and how you magically come alive. you make my heart smile.

this is a part of a dead tree. i guess you call that a log.

mr. robin i see you

cattails go hand in hand with redwinged blackbirds. in my world, you just can't get enough of them.

oh, mr. robin....i guess you see me, too.
~
happy weekend everyone
and
to toot my own horn just a little bit
one of my photos was nominated over here for her latest contest

for again acknowledging and loving my photographs
with a POTW award

probably a member of mensa....

i've seen squirrels climb out on thin wobbly wires to get the tiniest nibbles of bird seed from a feeder they weren't invited to and i've seen them fly from tree to tree like superman and then break into nuts that even we humans with thumbs would have found impossible to open
but
i have never seen a squirrel in a wood duck house
there aren't many wood ducks around this area and i only see a few each year at the pond where i walk, but i've been told that these "birdhouses on steroids" are for them.
if they truly are for the wood ducks, well this little guy didn't get that memo
and
i didn't have the heart to tell him he was probably renting out someone else's digs
since he was kind enough to let me take his photo.

my pond...

okay
it's not really my pond, but that's what i call it
and
after a sleepy winter and a terribly long and icy spring
that prevented me from getting near it...
well
i'm back
and
so are my turtles and my herons and my geese and my ducks
~
okay
they're not really mine
but
i wish they were

if you want to see more glorious {and i mean glorious} shots from the pond
