sucker punching the funk away...

now that i can actually wear a ponytail in my hair, i feel that somedays the biggest decision i have to make is "hair up or hair down" which makes me feel like i really need to get a life, which can put me into a funk, which i refuse to let happen today.
~
yesterday started out alright, but by late afternoon i was in a funk. i was bored. sure i could have read the book i started the night before or dusted or organized my desk or even taken a walk, as it was just warm enough to do that with only 2 layers on, but instead i rolled around in my funk, looking at it closely trying to figure out just exactly what it was made up of.
i even sent my hubby a text letting him know i was all funky.
i didn't want him to walk in the door after work and fall into my funk that would have pulled him down like quicksand.
that wouldn't have been fair to him. it's good to be forewarned about things like funk.
~
his grilled cheeseburgers with sauteed onions and mushrooms that he whipped up for dinner
sucker punched a whole lot of my funk away, and
thank god it was american idol night, as that pretty much wiped the remaining funk away. but like the leftover particles that float in the air after you've erased chalk from the board, the funk wasn't gone completely.
then there she was. my long distance friend. my you've got mail after 8pm friend.
she had been kind of funky too and together, with emails flying back and forth between us
just like we had done the night before, we made each other laugh and by bedtime
my funk here and her funk there had headed home.
~
so here's to a non funky day

  1. First of all, how lucky are you with a husband that grills burgers with onions and mushrooms?
and can I just say that for the past couple of weeks on Idol I have been completely smitten with Jacob Lusk! I think he is fantastic!
Hope your funk stays away, hope you have some sunshine ... we are in a heavy fog this morning.

  7. Oh, do I know that funk. Right now... I KNOW.. I'm not doing enough with my life. I feel like I'm wasting precious time...and I ain't getting any younger -

I just love that you're getting a kick out of the pony tail thing, why have you not grown your hair out in years before? Although you do rock the shorter look, something my husband has always loved and I've NEVER done. Just for chicken reasons.

  8. I can totally relate to this post. All too frequent, I get into these 'funks' where I don't know what to do to get out. Like you said, you're bored with a million possibilities around you, but none of these is what you want. And its gets funkier because you don't know what you want! Ah so is life. Here's to those funky days *raises her morning tea.

  9. I love how your described your funk, Beth...
Note to self, text Lovely Husband when I feel in a funk so not to drag him in with me, that is a very sound piece of advise...
I really love the pink rubber boots too :-)

  11. Funky days are all part of it, though they suck at the time. Love that hubby's burgers and a good friend let you coast through it...
Here's hoping you find the joy today.

  14. I'm so glad you found the support you needed to avoid that "Funk" nose dive. I've been secretly and silently searching for some of that myself. You know, in the usual places. Strangers eyes, ex-husbands, Bingo parlors, under rocks...OH! I came close once, about a month ago! But in the mitse of our rain-filled bad weather here, she turned out to be a fair weather friend. I have many...mucho many... acquaintances. I have 3 varying degrees of "close" male friends (withOUT benefits) But...I'd so very much LOVE to be given the prayer full-filling chance TO BE and TO HAVE a girlfriend. Just one would be fine. Altho I could handle more. I wouldn't want to appiear greedy.(Not to mention, if there were TO many, I'd be right back to where I am now)

...So, that's my purpetual "Funk! I felt that you'd shone me yours, so It was only fair I show you mine.

  15. Some days just include "Funk". They are difficult to get through, but good for you for noticing and helping it go away. People connections always help me when I am in a "Funk", so happy your husband made a nice hamburger and you had time to laugh. Now weren't the contestants on American Idol good last night? Oh it is hard to decide who I want to win.

  20. I'm reading this, and am thinking to myself, "well, she didn't seem so bad last night" when you were trying to cheer me up, and gasped out loud when you mentioned me.
Oh, my gosh. I think that pillow you threw at me knocked some sense into me. You crack me up!!
Hope today was a better one. I want cheeseburger.

  26. HA! I had a 9pm phone call from an old friend that lives waaaay far across the U.S. I think she must have thought I was in a funk because I had very little to say. I was just tired by 9pm was all and brain was in relaxed mode.

Hope the funk is gone because who needs that?

  29. I KNEW it would take me a long time to catch up here because you are such a prolific poster! I had to stop here and comment though because I have had so many funk filled days....they seem ok during the winter which is just made for that kind of thing but now with spring at the doorstep my funk is bothering me...will get my husband to grill some cheeseburgers this weekend:)

PS Thouroughly enjoyed catching up with all your posts and it did help me get a little less funky:)

  30. I think we all need funky days. Days where nothing gets done -- and in the long run, that's ok, because there wasn't a deadline, who cared? We all know how to pull things out of the fire and we do it all the time. Sometimes, we don't have to. Just honor it -- days unfunk all the time!
