shut the front door....

why is it that i thought pumpkins and gourds just magically appeared in fields
come the end of september
~
because
i'm a dork
~
remember
~
yesterday at my sister's house i walked with her to her garden
to watch her pick cucumbers and melons
but
it was the oranges and whites and greens of a fall harvest
that stole the show for me
~
i have a million photos that i'll share tomorrow
but
for now i just wanted to make sure that you all know fall is on the phone
telling summer she's been great, but that it's about time she packs her bags and leaves
~
seriously
it's 90 degrees here today
and
my sister has huge pumpkins in her garden
~
gosh
i love life

  4. It's a scorching 90 degrees here today, too. All week it's supposed to be killer HOT. Should I mention that the AC is out at work, so my upstairs-on-the-sunny-side-by-the-blacktop classroom is going to be a lot hotter than 90 degrees when the kids come back? I guess we'll journal about the 100 things we can do to cool off! ♥

  5. Summer never came here... and so I am not ready to say goodbye yet. But fall is my favorite season in the Inland Northwest, and pumpkin patch visits one of my favorite things about it, so give me some time to adjust to the Summer That Never Was... I will be quite ready for all those earthy autumn colors and cool breezes!

  6. Fabulous. Seeing this reminds me I MEANT to plant pumpkins in my front yard (Rick hated this idea) and I never got the seeds in. Maybe next year...

  7. Hot here too. I know it is here but I don't feel ready. Any chance of Fall entering negotiations ? Probably not...oh well. I do love pumpkins and harvest and such.
Let's just be happy as a big old orange pumpkin wherever we are !
    Hugs !

  9. now that's one BIG pumpkin. your sister must have some serious gardening skills. that would win a prize i think. the thing i've liked most about summer edging its way into fall is that i get to keep my door/ windows open for longer periods because it's been so cool lately. of course, it heats up around noontime. hope all is well. have a great day.

  10. Came back from a long weekend away and picked mini musk melons out of the garden. Oh yeah, baby. Fall is on its way.

p.s. I would adore a meet-up with the two of you!!! My kiddos start back to school this week. That allows me so much FrEeDom!!!! Waaaah! I'm going to miss them.

  11. Oh, yes, it's that time again! (It's cold here, though, so it seems more appropriate.)

  12. I LOVE pumpkins. All shapes, all sizes, all colors. And I wish I could say Fall was on the phone down here, in Florida, but I think Summer is refusing to take the call...

  14. Oh, does your sister show them. Our time has an annual Pumpkin Festival that's a really big deal for these parts. Last year the biggest pumpkin weighed just a little under 1200 lbs.! The second biggest was smaller by only 20 lbs. Those are biiiiig pumpkins!

  15. i am a crybaby about autumn calling, you know, and have been ignoring that ringing of the phone. today we have rain - it has been a long time, and i am reading a bit of you before eating some chocolate; i cannot catch up, time is moving too swiftly. and so fall will come whether i pick up that phone or not - good thing i love pumpkin pie.

  16. you are the second person to talk today about summer packing her bags. frankly i'm glad to see the heifer ease up a bit as we went for 56 days with temps over 90 degrees, and many of those close to 100. we broke that yesterday and quite frankly it was heaven.

  21. Love the photo! And I agree with Fall - she can tell Summer to come back next year. It's time for some cooler weather down here : )

  22. Autumn is my favorite season, so I am ready for that call and a pumpkin or two by my back door and some hot mulled cider out by the fire on a nice crisp night.
But it's 90 right now here, too.

  25. I saw the most delightful picture on Flickr this morning with tiny white pumpkins. Teeny tiny...like the size of a tennis ball.
I've got to get me some of those white pumpkins!
