yesterday
my dad turned 71
{handsome guy isn't he}
~
while i was growing up he owned a car dealership
~
after months of practicing how to drive
in used cars from his used car lot when i was 15
my big day finally arrived to try for my driver's license
~
he brought home a brand new car for me to take to the DMV
~
unfortunately during the road test
it started to rain
and
the windows fogged up
and
no matter what i did
the defrosters in the new car wouldn't work
and
i couldn't see out the windows
and
the examiner flunked me
~
i cried
~
and
do you know
i think it's the only time i have ever been mad at my dad
{i did get my license the second time around}
~
now granted
he raised three daughters
and
there was probably something at sometime
that he didn't let me do or didn't let me have
but
i don't remember ever being mad at him
other than that day
~
love you
dad
on our way to my sister's house this past weekend
to celebrate dad's birthday
i made the hubby stop so i could talk to these horses
~
here they're telling me how happy they are
that spring is finally here
*
Aww sweet. Happy birthday to your Dad. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy b-day to your dad! Yes, he is handsome. And that's a good age, it's mine too!
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet horses. When my two granddaughters were 5 and 3, there were horses within walking distance to their home. They loved for us to walk to the horses and pet them. I loved it too!
Haha! What a great story. Happy birthday, Dad! BTW, that examiner was MEAN to fail you!!!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY Beths Daddy! 71 but feeling like 50?...Well, that's my Birthday wish for you.
ReplyDeleteAnd It didn't suprise me Beth, that you'd stopped and had a conversation with those Equine Beauties!...No, on the contrairy ! Where else would the expression "Horse Sense" have come from? Especially when it Horse sense generaly indecates a sharp, sensable ,smart and well informed person or circumstance, having the inside track! or the details. Your horse-faced friends above me here look pretty savy
yes, the horses are very happy spring is here :)
ReplyDeleteNot many kids get to drive a brand new car to the DMV! I was in a stick-shift.... It was nail biting time as I sat at a red-light on a slight hill balancing clutch and gas.
ReplyDeleteYour dad looks like a sweetheart, and those horses are sweethearts to invite you over for a chat.
Happy Birthday to your Dad - I'm glad that this is the only incident you can remember being angry with him. Hopefully, my children don't remember how angry I sometimes made them, either.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your Dad. He is a kind dad and you are a kind daughter, the perfect combination :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you dad!!!! Great pic of the horses..they look happy too!!
ReplyDeleteHugs

He is a handsome fella. Happy Birthday, Beth's wonderful dad! You raised a lovely daughter, you know. She's full of spunk, and creativity, and love, and deep thoughts and has a whole lot of jumps in her that she shares with us. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just so heartwarming, Beth.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your Dad.
happy birthday to your dad! sweet story and photo...thank you for sharing! -k.
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteMy dad was a car dealer and I flunked too :) put 'er there!
I drove so many cars off the lot and boys at school were so jealous. It was funny.
Your dad is a nice looking guy!
I've always, well at least since being a grown up, felt bad about my dad having three girls to raise and live in a house with! He was a wonderful, quiet country boy, my mom from Hotlanta, so he had his hands full! He also had a garage out back where he spent all the time he could working on old cars and making them beautiful again, wish I had just one of the many he gave me!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your handsome dad! and I love the photo of the horses, they do look like they have alot to say.
Susan
He is very good looking.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get my license until after I married at 20. I was so excited and so nervous, I made a wrong turn on a one way street. I cried all night. Had to go to work the next day. I passed the 2nd time too.
Happy Birthday, wonderful dad!
happy birthday to your dad! and i love those horses - they have such pretty pretty faces.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of my driver's road test when we both got in the car and I turned the ignition on, put it in reverse (we were in a parking space), I stepped lightly on the gas, looked backwards, but the car wouldn't move, so I stepped a bit harder, still nothing. I fumbled a bit and couldn't figure out what was wrong until the highway patrol officer told me I needed to release the parking brake. I thought I had flunked before I even left the parking space!! But, luckily he was a nice guy and let me go on and I passed!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your Dad!
Very handsome indeed! Happy Birthday to your dad. I failed my first test as well, in a car that I had never driven before that day.
ReplyDeleteLove the horses!
Happy Birthday to your Dad Beth. I think it is wonderful that you only remember the one time. sounds to me like he was a special man. I got my liscence the first time, but there was only one stop sign in the town....I miss driving now due to my Cataplexy spells, but have many memories of my independance and buying a pink car, Hyundai 1996 that I named Precious....how silly. love the horse picture too. hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Beth's dad! Aren't you glad she's not mad at you anymore?
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your handsome Dad.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was a car salesman too!

Sweet post! Happy Birthday to dad:)
ReplyDeleteOh honey...I'm sorry. How frustrating (and kinda funny...come on, it is...and it's going to be a great story to tell over and over!).
ReplyDeleteOk that was just a bad day when your car and the whether gave you a jolt. Anyway we all at one point or the other in our lives have gone mad on our parents. So your not alone. Happy birthday to your lovely dad!! :)

Your dad sounds like a terrific guy. Too bad about that first driving test in the brand new car...but he just want you to be impressed and for you to impress the man giving the test ( I assume it was a man ).
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to him!
I am with the horses !
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Beth's Dad !
