i'm sorry, but i had to do it....

yesterday
~twice~
nice comments were left on my blog
but
when i clicked on their blogger names to see who they were
they weren't bloggers
they were nasty advertising sites
~
one was for electronics. i think. honestly i was so surprised by it that i clicked out of it really fast. the other one was for vacation places.
~~
so i had do make some changes. which made me mad. since i didn't do anything wrong.
first
i got rid of anonymous users
~for now~
and
i had to add back in
word verification
~i hate word verification~
~~
so to the nasty sneaky people out there. go away. please.
and
to all of my blog readers who i adore and who i don't thank enough
thank you
for being wonderful
really wonderful
~~
i love wonderful. i hate nasty and sneaky.

oh
if you have some extra time. can you come over here and see my beautiful niece.

  2. No need to apologize. Word verification though a pain, is unfortunately necessary if you want to keep the spammers away. I enjoy your blog and lovely photos.

  3. Word verification is a small price to pay for visiting your blog, Beth.

  5. I especially like the photo of your niece watering the flower garden. Why is it that girls luv the camera and boys....not so much. Phillip practically runs away when he's see my camera.

  8. 3 things I dislike
    1. Spamers
    2. Phone telemarketers
    3. Door to door salesman

If I want your services then I'll eave me look you up in the yellow pages!!!
I don't take any company seriously if they have to stoop to these levels to sell their products.

Our blogs are not free advertising space. If only we could leave useless comments on their spaces.

  9. It's just a matter of time until I get hit on my blog as well. I've been blogging for almost 2 years and I've never added the word verification. I total understand how you feel.

PS. Sure, I'd love to come over to meet your beautiful niece. Would you promise me a cup of java and a Clausen's morning bun????

  11. I know exactly how you feel! I have found that even with word verification I still get nasty commentors! I love your blog & am glad I found it!!

  12. The spam/advertisers can be so annoying. No apologies necessary. Do whatever it is you need to do to keep yourself safe and sane.

What texture are you using on your photos to give them this ethereal quality? They are lovely.

On one of my old blogs, I once was hit by an automated spammer just as I was checking my stats ... so I caught it right away. In the two minutes it took me to set up moderated comments, it had worked through nearly a year of my posts. Took me a while to clean them up. A shame that a few bad apples spoil it for everyone else, but now I'm surprised that that anyone still has unmoderated comments.

Beautiful flower -- lovely start to a new day!

  17. Personally, I hate word verifications. Until it comes up 5 letters or less I just keep hitting enter. Why the hell someone makes them upwards of 8 letters long is asinine. 5 letters is enough.

Still, I'm not a fan of them.
I just leave it open and set it to the comments older than a certain date are "moderated only."

But then, I also just delete the spammy ones.

    Like the picture : )

  18. I hate those sneaky people too. I had to change email address one time because some sneak got into my address book and kept emailing all my friends and business assoc. about buying some computer related junk. Pissed me off.
On a lighter note, your niece, what a beauty. She looks like a very happy little farm girl.
Damn, now I have to go fill out your word verification.....

You are worth it, Beth ! ;)

  20. I have often wondered how you got away without the necessity of word verification, etc., etc. and I'm so sorry you've had to deal with the nasties. But no biggie for me - just a few secs. And peace of mind for you. Well worth it.

i know. i hate word verification. but it seems to be a must if we are to keep away nastiness.

  22. I had to add word verification back not to long ago also. I did have one of those advertisement guys recently too. It is disgusting and frustrating. So no problem on making your changes.

  23. i had it on, i took it off....we will see how long it lasts this time.

    sorry they hit you.

  24. I had to put word verification on mine as well Beth, although I don't like it I have not had anything go wrong since...I don't mind it at all now.....:-)Hugs

  25. My verification word is "revula." Which sounds like how I feel about blog spammers -- I've had a couple of gibberish ones recently -- and I have word verification. But typing in a few characters is a small price to pay for visiting your blog and telling you how much we love it!

  26. I hate advertisers who leave a message. It's annoying. I'm sorry you've had to change things a bit but, at least you'll get some peace from it. Hope all is else is well.

  27. almost forgot~ your niece is beautiful. i simply loved that first photo. have a great day.

  29. I seem to get hit by a lot of spammers. So I put WV on. Then after several months go by, I take it off and the spammers come back. After 2 years of this, I did something different this time.
I took off WV and set my comments to automatically publish only if they were within the last 5 days. And amazingly, I've caught all the spam that way. Well, fingers crossed. Took off the WV about 2 months ago.

  30. Oh me too, Beth. I tried to make is simple but the spammers got in the way. No worries, I'll still say what I think!

  31. Not to worry about word verifications. It tests my eyeballs and worth it to read your wisdom and see the beautiful photos.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Shame on them! I hate when that happens. I had to stop anonymous comments too :-(

  33. What a bummer, Beth. I remember once, approving a comment that was in Japanese - then, when I went to Google translate to see what had been written, it was an ad for some porn magazine and adult web site. That taught me to translate before I approved a comment! I don't know how/if a comment can be deleted if you inadvertently approve it!

  34. Hey, I'd do word verification twice, and happily, to visit your blog and see your photos. Even if I had to add them to get here! Todays wv is botord. That's what I say to spammers!

    ReplyDelete
  35. A pox upon all spammers!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I had to do the same thing.. I just don't see what they gain from this kind of crap.. sheeesh.
    love the pic btw!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. The photo is so peaceful.
wish all of life stuff was.

I am going to add it too Beth. I know it is a pain, but I would rather spend time savouring your blog than cleaning up mine.

  38. Even with word verification in place, I found a comments in Chinese characters posted on at least a dozen of my posts yesterday. I couldn't read them, of course, except I could tell that each comment was identical and contained the word sex in the forest of characters. It really made me see red that someone would be so rude and that I'd have to spend time deleting all that garbage by hand. So I really identify.

  39. there's always someone who will take advantage of an otherwise beautiful system. tragic. i have comment moderation for that reason. i don't want to, i would like people to see their comments immediately, but i don't want people to randomly spam me and for that to land on my page.

we do what we have to. it's like saving money, signing contracts and wearing a safety belt. it's not because of who you are, but who the world might turn out to be.

    ReplyDelete
  40. so sorry to hear it. I hate word verification too!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I use the word verification,too...but somehow the spammers can still get through occasionally. It's so irritating.

As long as you keep posting such lovely images, how can I complain about a few random letters? :)

**I love reading the comments you leave, as they make me feel like we're sitting in my kitchen, having a cup of tea, discussing life and wondering where all the time has gone ...beth
