make a wish...

I wish
I had something profound to say today
but
the words I feel are caught in my throat
and
even with cup after cup of hot tea
they refuse to budge
~~
my guiding light
my true north
my hearts anchor
my keeper of everything
is
gone
~~
his new job calls
and
monday
the united states olympic committee
will welcome him with open arms
~~
so for now
I just want to say to this amazing man
{because I know he's reading this on the road}
~~
"I am so amazingly proud of you, I can hardly stand it"
and
"you'll be missed more than you'll ever know
and
more than I'll ever let on"
~~
so
soon
I'll gather the pile of words and a few loose vowels
that my heart has been collecting
that my throat refuses to release
and
gently put them in a wheelbarrow
and
take them out back and plant them one by one
in a perfectly sunny spot where they'll drink in sweet rainwater and magically be kept safe from the little teeth of the chewing rabbits whose scrunched up noses and wiry whiskers make me laugh
so
they can grow
and
blossom
into a brilliant garden of beautiful thoughts
where
at first
they'll look
 a little bit like weeds
due to my green thumb being a little blue
but
they'll have really big hearts
and
limbs that blow in the wind
just for you

  5. What will he be doing that causes him to go away? No wonder the words are sticking to each other, unable to squeeze out.

Bethy, Your post made my heart so envious of the type of love you two share. My eyes spilled a couple of those tears that you used to catch from your children and put in your pocket... I wonder if John's pockets are spilling over with tears and swirling thoughts. You KNOW they are.
    love you, shell xoxxoxox

  20. This day HAD to come and so hard to romanticize it, but somehow you managed. As mad as I can get at Double BB, I do NOT want him away for even one night ... keep growing the words, sending the bouquets, it will all close the distance and keep HIM near ... best of luck to him, though ... what a great opportunity!

  21. Oh, many hugs. It's so hard to miss someone, even when you know it's wonderful and good and all the right things... it's just far away. But oh, this is simply beautiful!
