reaching for the sky...

it's old and weathered and simple
and
yet so stunningly beautiful
that it takes my breath away
~~
it's just an outbuilding
on a rundown farm
that I have photographed before
but
sitting in the sun this past saturday afternoon
casting shadows
in the late november sun
it was alive with personality and strength
~~
maybe someday
years from now
someone will describe me this same way
and
if they do
I'll be completely happy with that
*
this was taken with my new lens
~that many of you asked me about the last time I was out playing~
it's a 10-20 wide angle
and
it's just so much fun
~~
I could have edited this photo
and
actually thought about that for more than a few minutes
but
then decided to leave it natural...sooc
because
well
sometimes simple
just feels right

  4. Beth, I thought you were describing me, "old, weathered and simple" .....skip the "stunningly beautiful" part.

You are both an amazing photographer and writer. It's my pleasure to visit your blog.

  14. really is reaching for the sky, isn't it? love that. the softness to the left. the crispness to the right.

the little awkward outbuilding gets center stage....(applause applause)...
first up in a long line of storytellers...it reveals
'...when I first arrived here my makers, with no real experience at all, set out to homestead...'

  19. I'm totally jealous Beth.

A wide angle is next on my list of goodies.

I've noticed there is no barrel distortion on this lens can you tell me more about what make and model it is?

  20. I love the photo, Beth. As much as I like to see edited photos, and have played around with it a little, I tend to like the natural look even more. When the picture is that stunning, nothing can make it any better!

And, by the way, I love the analogies you come up with. You're not only a great photographer but a gifted writer (and thinker) as well!

  22. Indeed it does. As much as I love the building and your apt description of it... my favorite part is the "late November sun."

Thanks for the "sun" you infused in my day :)

  24. "it was alive"

i am always amazed at how old, seen through new eyes, and open expanses have the ability to speak without saying anything.

  27. Found you through Ruth's "game", and what a delight it is. All of us get accustomed to visiting certain blogs, and it's wonderful to find a new one that's so fresh and appealing.

The problem, of course, is time - one link leads to another worth-reading link, and even retirement wouldn't bring hours enough to enjoy them all. But I've enjoyed yours, and will be back.
