she sits up proudly
with her shoulders back
in the prairie
whose color has been washed away overnight
~~
the deep thick prairie
that holds the hands of the lives we rarely see
~
deer spend the night in beds they have created
fox or maybe coyotes leave their footprints behind in the dirt
and
furry things that chew for hours and hours
burrow away in their underground tunnels
~~
yesterday
a white blanket of frost had thrown itself over the prairie
right before I got there
but
when the early morning sun rubbed the sleep out of her eyes
and
threw her arms wide
the prairie jumped to attention
suddenly dressed in a layer of shimmering gold
that looked like it had been painted on
~~
the window shades made of tree leaves
have now been stripped away
leaving many things naked
but
the dried grasses
looked fully dressed
as they danced and swayed to a music I couldn't hear
the bird houses are full and moving
with furry little field mice and all their relatives
~yes field mice~
and
sometimes like yesterday
when I'm at the cottage
walking in the fields
taking photos
breathing in an air that I can actually taste
the
prairie fairies
gather together
and
hold the sun for me
~
perfectly
just like that

did anyone else cry last night with grey's anatomy or was I the only one
?
i received a lovely postcard this week from 'the swap' and wouldn't you know - it was yours (with the squirrel). kismit!! it made me smile. and your cottage, it looks oh so lovely. xx s
ReplyDeletelove the view from your eyes at your cottage...
ReplyDeleteBeth, it would be beautiful up there, so quiet I am sure, and a lovely place for you to do your scouting. Take care. Have a great weekend with your new lens.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should invest in a bird house for that mouse I heard the other morning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking place! I think I would have to stay for longer than just a weekend though!
i cried. love your cottage, beautiful but then again i always think every cottage is beautiful in its' own right.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful place to seek and find beauty, lovely beth ! Thank you for sharing your beautiful sights and your beautiful words with us this morning !
ReplyDeleteHave a super weekend playing with your new lens !
Big Hugs !
Hmmm.... I may just have to move in to this place....beautiful shots, Beth and a what a gorgeous house.
ReplyDeletetotally cried. totally. it ripped me apart with that story line.
ReplyDeleteI need to watch the show again...I got called away and didn't get to finish it.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful your photos are today. I loved all of them. such peaceful and beautiful scenes.
I don't follow the show, but did see the promos and I know I would have cried. Too close to home ... say a prayer for Bridget ... you don't need to know her, just know that she's wayyyyyy too young to face all she's been handed.
ReplyDeleteYour cottage is the stuff of dreams. Thanks for sharing so many of the images from there. And I do not know of anyone who writes like you do and oh, how I love to read it over and over again.
Oh to feel those prairie fairies nearby. Our bird house is inhabited by a squirrel. He diligently chewed on the entrance until it was large enough to climb inside. Be careful not to get too close or he will jump out of the hole and scare you away.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk in your prairie.
Girl that's not a cottage....it's full grown house!! Beautiful....
ReplyDeleteAs for Grey's really hit home for me and was very difficult to watch, but the doc in me sooooo wanted them to boot Christina out on her ass!!!
Oh, but you DO hear the music...and you see it too, and capture it so beautifully in your photographs.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that wonderful cottage all tucked away, hidden from the world when the trees are in full leaf. What a gorgeous area to have a little getaway.
YES! I cried too!!!
xoxo
Oh Beth this is a beautiful post. Love the colors love your words. You ar Sooooo good at this. And no I didn't cry at Grey's Anatomy because I don't watch it and than again we are way back behind you guys anyways...;-)
ReplyDeleteI was so not expecting that to be your last line! Ha... how did you know? Yes, tears, and I had to stop the dvr and go back and then play again through some parts because you get the nuances better that way. Still miss George...
ReplyDeleteBut don't let me get too distracted here. The photos are as lovely as always but! But your words spoke to me especially today. Make me wish I had a cottage too :)

ReplyDeleteIm going to try to comment without saying the obvious...what great photos! After a 5 year search, Ive finally found my quiet retirement home. Your cottage.Just beautiful. And, by the way...Great photos!
ReplyDeleteYour cottage is very lovely all nestled away and secluded. Your own private retreat. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Grey's Anatomy.
can I come too???? Wow... beautiful.
ReplyDeleteok, I just keep looking at these over and over... they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely post. And as for your p.s., I hope I can watch the episode online, because I fell asleep at 7 p.m. and didn't awaken until 10:45 and was trying to figure out what they were talking about on Private Practice, since I haven't seen it for over a month.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are stunning. The leaf above looks like it is made of velvet! I am going to try to do the photo trick that you gave instructions for in the previous entry. Will have to try to take some cool pictures. You have really found your groove with words and photos.
ReplyDeletelovely shots! and how i would LOVE to stay there for a while! it is the exact opposite of the city life that i lead, and sometimes that sounds nice!
ReplyDeleteyour place is simply incredible thru your camera lens...thank you for taking me on a walk in your "get away" world
ReplyDeletesounds divine. aaaah.
