should I be ashamed
that I don't want ham and mashed potatoes on easter
?
because sometimes I am
~~~~~
I'm not traditional when it comes to any of the holidays
even christmas
and
sometimes I feel like a bad person for being that way
~~
I blame it on moving so many times
and
never being in the same place
doing the same thing
at the same time every year
but
in all honesty
I think it's all due to my inability to stay focused
and
the fact that I get bored easily
and
that doing and being like everyone else
just isn't me
~~~
so on sunday
we're grilling brats and chicken breasts
and
making bruschetta and soda pop cake
~~~
or
were you thinking I was going for a little pecan encrusted flamingo this year
?
that's just sick
~~~~~
{I took this photo two years ago when we were in aruba}
Oh Beth!!!! Beth, this photo, is breath takingly beautiful. Oh, I adore it! I absolutely love this photo. And, no, a holiday is a special day, and what makes it special, is what appeals to you! It sounds like a DeVine meal. What is soda pop cake??? I think I want a slice! Oh, and I want this photo!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, you always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteOur souls are definitely related. I was thinking of stirfrying some fried rice, vegetables, and chicken on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThis picture is gorgeous, Beth. Just gorgeous. What a majestic creature.
that photo is just stunning.
ReplyDeleteok - now then to food (my 2nd favorite thing). my family is only traditional on thanksgiving. on christmas we do grilled steaks, potatoes and salad. for easter we're thing of bbq and fixin's. or I would love some great seafood.
you rebel!!
ReplyDeletein all honesty I am the same way..thank you for being so honest!
I'm right there with 'ya Beth...as the years go on, I'm so over the traditional fare for holidays. Bring on homemade buttermilk pancakes...give me a little french toast with butter and powered sugar on top...are you seeing a breakfast theme? I LOVE BREAKFAST!
ReplyDeletesoda pop cake? wth? that's it, i am coming over!
ReplyDeletethere will be jelly beans and an egg hunt, RIGHT?
xooxxooxxoxoo
Beth, I think alot of us are getting away from the regular meal. i am just glad we are able to be with family and friends. Still laughing about the noodles....lol
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photograph Beth :-) And what are brats?
ReplyDeleteoh sister, i hear you!
ReplyDeletei just want to stay home for
easter and sit outside with the
kids and dogs listening to music
and laughing. the older i get, the
more rebellious i am about the holidays.
how are you?
this image is gorgeous
Hi Beth,
ReplyDeleteLamb is what you ought to be having! But, I agree, there is no need to follow tradition if everyone enjoys variety.
I was wondering what "brats" are too, but then I wondered if it's short for "bratwurst"?
Glad you're not really planning a flamingo fiesta!
Sounds perfect to me- especially the soda pop cake! Enjoy
ReplyDeleteBeth that photo is STUNNING!!!! Wow! Needs to be entered into some kind of contest! I agree with you on the "have to do" traditions. The older I get the less I am into that kind of rigidity!
ReplyDeleteLiving life off the beaten path -- it's a good thing!:)
ReplyDeletexo
I have thoroughly enjoyed starting my day by wandering around your blog! Wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteSounds great to me...is Soda Pop Bread anything like Irish Soda Bread? Which I love...what time is dinner?
ReplyDeleteDid someone say brats?
ReplyDeleteHey that's just how we roll around these parts.
xo
wow that bird is so graceful! mmmmm ...
ReplyDeletehey, I love NON-traditional traditions ... my family when I was growing up? we were always broke broke broke, so Mom and Dad invented Chinese Christmases -- all it meant was that we didn't do gifts at all -- instead, we all went out for a traditional Chinese meal. Since we lived in Washington, D.C., we had plenty of authentic restaurants to try out. I love ham but since we eat it all the time, it's not 'special' -- now Brats? honey, that very word in your post just made me slobber ... I think that's going to be on the menu this weekend.
that is hilarious—pecan encrusted flamingo. i say go for it! (not the flamingo.) traditions are just that. what is wrong with starting new traditions? ham on easter is a man-made tradition. so is turkey on thanksgiving. doing things only to follow tradition is wrong in my opinion. we should doing things from the heart.
ReplyDeletedid you take this picture of the flamingo? it's amazing!
As the woman who once ordered a hamburger and fries in a fancy restaurant with her prom date watching in horror, I say anything goes!
ReplyDeleteThe picture is lovely. I agree I am not a traditionalist either. I am taking Chicken and Noodle Soup to my Grandparents on Sunday. As well as some kind of sweet treat.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend

Love that flamingo -- it's a stunner! We're doing the ham thing, but it's Rick's choice, not mine. Ham makes me retain water! A few years ago we did a wonderful shrimp pasta -- it was light, springy, lovely and easy. Oh, well. We're just lucky we've got the kids this year. I'd eat flamingo. Well, maybe not...
ReplyDeleteWhere is it written that you HAVE to have ham and mashed potatoes? I like doing things differently now and then. Right now your menu sounds better than mine.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like heaven! I think I will be doing something similar! Maybe some chorizo and eggs!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious. I have to tell you, though. Walnuts work better with flamingo than pecans. Maybe that's the trouble.
