I wonder
what would happen if we all left our gates open
just a little
?
would the old lady with the stringy grey hair who lives down the street in the cat filled house
that the teenagers make fun of and call crazy
wander in
and
bring you fresh baked cookies
~~
would the dog that runs wild and terrorizes the neighborhood saunter in
and
lay gently at your feet as you tend to your garden
~~
would the single mom who lives next door
who hasn't slept in a few nights because of her baby's cough
stop to ask you for some motherly advice
~~
maybe
as spring continues to open wide
we should open our gates
just a little
just for fun
just to see
who comes into our lives

Wonderful image. Thought-provoking message. I love the single mother part...
ReplyDeleteAlways happy to stop by your blog.
Have a Conscious Friday.
I do enjoy how you question the world and wonder about possibility. Or, is that wander about possibily? Or, both?
ReplyDeleteI don't have a gate. Most days with my two wild Scotties who insist on running to every neighbor they see, I wish I did. More for my convenience than for their desires....
Gates keep things orderly. But, they also keep a great deal out. You're a curiously wise woman.
mine is unlocked at my blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth,
ReplyDeleteAn attractive but danger-filled dream! If only the old lady, the dog and the single mom were all we might encounter?!
But a lovely idea and your gate looks most inviting. :0)
I just wonder if, in some poor neighbor's eye, I might be the oddball lady from next door with the hair standing up from sleep tousles I tend to ignore, & the ModPodge-covered blown out knees jeans, & the bombay ink-stained hands, going thru someone ELSE'S gate and scaring them. They might not WANT my cookies ... hee.
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, I love your post...It would be great if we could leave our gates open. Oh well as long as our hearts are. I love coming for a visit and love, love, love your photos. Take Care
ReplyDeleteThat was beautifully written! Imagine if we open the gate to the universe...what gifts and miracles might we receive?
ReplyDeletegorgeous advice...if we were all a bit vulnerable and soft, could we all get along?
ReplyDeleteAMEN
ReplyDeleteVery nice post and now you have me wondering and thinking :)
ReplyDeletei just love this so entirely much, that it's going to change my day, entirely. my outlook, my inlook, my expectations.
ReplyDeleteHmm... you make me think. I think I need to make that first step.

ReplyDeleteRegarding your current book; I saw that on your shelf (in a photo, no I did not drive up and look in your windows!) and it is on my list! Looks great!!!!
your words totally take my breath away....and have me wondering about what would come into my life if i left the gate open a little!
ReplyDeleteso looking forward to checking out the rest of your blog!
Oh. This is another of your perfect posts. Wow. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all lived our lives open to people and the possibilities they bring?
ReplyDeleteSigh, all the possibilities...
ReplyDeleteOpening our gate invites delicious serendipity, and in that we find the magic of living.
ReplyDeleteMy gate is always open to you, Beth. Come on over!!
