help...

you is kind
you is smart
you is important
~
and

now that i have your attention
what i really mean is
"the help"
{not help}
as in
if you haven't seen this movie
you must
~
i found this quote yesterday and along with telling you that i think you really need to see "the help"
i wanted to leave you with these words for the weekend
~
"you were born with potential
you were born with goodness and trust
you were born with ideals and dreams
you were born with
wings
you are not meant for crawling, so don't
you have wings
learn to use them and fly"

  1. I just watched it earlier this week. At first, I wasn't sure I'd like it, but it ended up being wonderful! It's hard to believe that stuff really happened.

  5. This was one of the few film adaptations of books that pretty much matched what I had in my mind's eye. I loved it. Happy weekend to you.

  6. Couldn't get into the book so I passed on the movie but I understand the main message of both.

I wish there had been someone in my life as a child who told me those words over and over. I made very sure to pass that message on to my children -- perhaps not those exact words, but that message.

No matter what age we achieve...I believe we need to hear that quote and those words by Rumi..often.

Thank you for saying them to me toaday. ♥

  8. I read the book and saw the movie and absolutely loved both. I thought the cast for the movie was perfect too. Could Hilly have been ANY MORE "Hilly"??....lol... loved Minny, loved Skeeter, loved them all.

I say that mantra often, it stays with you, doesn't it? Although she spoke better most of the time than she did using that particular - You IS.. I'm wondering why they emphasized it right there.

  9. Loved it- our whole book club went to it and laughed and cried through the whole thing. We plan to do a movie night again for some book we've read. So glad the movie was such a great reflection of the book!

  10. SO I'm likely the only woman who didn't read it or see the movie!! Many reasons for that. As an African American woman kind of hard to digest some things. I've heard it's very powerful though. Maybe one day. I love your poem. affirmations are critical. Thank you!!

  11. I read the book first, then saw the movie. Both were amazing. I was pleasantly surprised at how close the movie was to the book.

    You is....
reminds me of my grandmother's speech patterns. She always used IS instead of ARE. But I never corrected her because that's who she was. :)

  12. A couple years ago I bought the book and only got through the first couple chapters... With a grandmother who was a 'household domestic' it was really...hard.

When the movie came out I had no intention of watching it even though several friends seen it... UNTIL my 18 year old son seen it and gave me some of the quote that you have on here.

Now as to rather I liked it or not...I really cant say. I was between the ages of 5-9 when my grandmother was STILL working in that capacity. That was in the 70's (wasnt too far off) so that could be why I didnt enjoy it as much.

  13. The photo of the child looks like potential on the way to happening. I love that haircut! I read the The Help but haven't seen the movie. Will do.

  14. I read the book and Loved it, then I saw the movie and Loved it.
It just boggles my mind that there are still people out there that are unable to accept others.

  18. Hi Beth,
Love "The Help" the movie! But...loved the book even better...AND....the book on tape was second only the "The Secret Life of Bees". Both are worth listening to as the characters really come to life on tape.
And...if you are in the movie mood...Hugo & The Artist are well worth the admission...beautifully done...really!

  20. I hate it when I write a comment and then it gets messed up from blogger. OK, all I said was I loved this book. Love it in every way. And loved the movie, too, in a different way. I think the movie is always better than a book, or almost always, but they did a darned good job with the screenplay on this, getting the best, leaving the extras. And everyone needs a courageous Abilene to love them, build them up, and to be so quietly courageous.

  21. I haven't seen it but I'm halfway through the book and enjoying it very much.

  23. Haven't read the book but saw the movie. LOVED it. Bought it for my mother in law for xmas. She loved it. She says she remembers things that way growing up. Me , i don't. But thinking about how much we've changed since then gives me hope for the future, that yes we can change. I'm sure some would argue that things really haven't changed . It may not be Nirvana and things may not be perfect but oh yes things have changed since then.Hugs! deb

  25. I read the book and saw the movie. They were both so good. And I love those three lines you quoted from the movie. So true. Sad that not every child grows up hearing or believing them.

  26. Have neither read the book nor seen the movie. Must remedy that. This is the second time I have seen/heard that particular verse of Rumi's this weekend. Hmmm...

  27. Yes, I had read the book first and was not disappointed by the movie. My husband gave me a DVD of the movie for Christmas, maybe I will watch it again tomorrow. And remember: Dance daily, even if no one is watching. I am tracking your red tutu. At least I think it is with Gillian now.
