I was never told that in my forties I would fall in love with birds
not just any birds
but
big birds
birds that are beautiful
and
make me laugh
birds that fly with grace all around me at the pond
while I walk gently with my camera
trying to be calm
birds that insist a game of tag or chase is what they like to do
and
somehow know that I will totally play along

I'm not sure if there are different types of herons or not and it doesn't really make a difference to me at this point as I have decided to call these guys "the fun herons" as they make me laugh...
almost like they know exactly what they're doing

We've had the herons come to our pond here in NH and they amaze me like something from another time...we are blessed with the Robins, Jays, Cardinals, Oriels, Purple & Gold Finches....grosbeaks and the Chickadees are nesting in my birdhouse using cat fluff to line their nest...just lovely!

ReplyDeletethe herons we have here are more whiter (maybe different type?). i love their S shaped necks.

ReplyDeleteThe pictures are fun! And, I truly believe God made all animals for our amazement. Just like a puppy makes us laugh, so does the herons. Or, at least, will make us smile.
We just never know where life will lead if we follow it with openness and curiosity. Just don't describe yourself as a birdbrain. :)

ReplyDeleteOnce again, your post almost echoes mine, but mine is about the tiniest bird. And I love the pictures of you girls, and you with no hood. Now how did you manage that? I can still hear my mom saying "put your hood on!"

You know how sometimes we think that everyone has a "twin" in life? Not sure anyone would say that visually about us, but my spirit always feels as though you are mirroring my soul. I am in awe of your way of expressing life ... and a reminder that we all can choose to open up to seeing and feeling each day in a more meaningful way. Thank you.

Iam SO loving your fun herons -- that's a perfect name for them! And the images are fabulous -- you can tell they connect with you! The flight ones -- stunning. I remember your "playing tag" -- so THAT's what it looks like!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a bird expert but I think that's a blue heron. Beautiful captures - especially the ones in flight.
ReplyDeleteHerons are amazing, aren't they? There is one in the park here that will let you get within about 5 feet of him to take a picture. I think he is loving all the fame. And free food.
