you left too soon...

*new neighbors move in just a street over from our backyard
*he works for the same company as my hubby
*their children are beautiful and I get to photograph them
*she laughs at seeing me with our dog in a doggie stroller one afternoon
*their friends are our friends
*they are at the same parties we are
*I volunteer with her in the community
*they have a dog who tries to be an escape artist one afternoon
*they invite us over for dinners
*we have many lunches out with "the girls"
*he takes a different job in a new state far away
*one last lunch is had with "the girls" while the boxes are being packed
*they move away too quickly
*their old house still stands empty
*their old yard is filled with tulips that I saw yesterday on my afternoon walk
*she would have wanted me to take photos

and
on the patio
champ's toys and water dish
were the only tangible items left behind as a reminder of who lived here
along with lots of memories

  2. Dearest Beth:
This post broke my heart wide open. Whyd would they leave the dog's toys like that? Oh, this made me cry. I'm so sad! Good job! No, really! You made this happen!

  4. Sad! It's so hard when friends move away and you can't just drop by their house or find them on your porch. You can talk on the phone but you can't see the gleam in the eye or the droop of the shoulders. Or the wriggly greeting of the family dog.

  5. Well hopefully, if the new family doesn't have a dog, the sight of Champ's toys and dish will have them itching to get a Champ of their own...

And, she definitely would want you to photograph the tulips. I wonder if the lilac bush bloomed out in our old yard...

    :)

  12. Hi Beth,

Always sad to say goodbye to good friends but, hopefully, new ones will not be long in the making.

  13. Beth- that's so sad...but you captured it amazingly, I might add. I always hate being the one left behind as people move on. Hopefully the empty house will bring new friends and memories to be created and cherished.

  14. Missing friends is hard ! I know this, living 5 hours away from my sweet family and most of my dear, dear friends.

I hope that you get to make new, rich connections with the people who move into their house.

My mom said something to me the other day about people who have seemingly left your life. She said "They may be gone, but I can never now un-know them." I like this thought.

Hope you have a cozy weekend !

It's sad when we lose connections that we've come to value deeply. But the memories are good. Will they stay in contact?

  21. I've never EVER gotten used to the part where change comes in and cleaves me from Significant People ... you captured it, of course, in simple powerful statements, and that picture of Champ's food bowl ... watery eyes, watery eyes!

  22. It's simply heartbreaking when wonderful neighbors move. Their empty space leaves a very large hole in your heart. I hope the new neighbors can measure up.

Have a lovely weekend. The photos are lovely (and yes, she would definitely want you to take photos!)

But I wonder who will move in and enrich your life in other ways?
