probably a member of mensa....

i've seen squirrels climb out on thin wobbly wires to get the tiniest nibbles of bird seed from a feeder they weren't invited to and i've seen them fly from tree to tree like superman and then break into nuts that even we humans with thumbs would have found impossible to open
but
i have never seen a squirrel in a wood duck house
there aren't many wood ducks around this area and i only see a few each year at the pond where i walk, but i've been told that these "birdhouses on steroids" are for them.
if they truly are for the wood ducks, well this little guy didn't get that memo
and
i didn't have the heart to tell him he was probably renting out someone else's digs
since he was kind enough to let me take his photo.

  2. This is such a cute photo. We have squirrels here, pure black, and some grey and some orange. There is even one squirrel with the front half grey and the back half pure black.

  13. Just look at that face! I used to read a book to my daughter when she was young, called,"The Little Wood Duck." I think it was by Eric Carle. Great illustrations, as I recall, and just amazing the way the baby ducks catapult themselves down from their tree nest without getting hurt in the process!

  15. This must have been fun to shoot. I love squirrels even though most people don't. I thought I was going to be attacked once by one. It scolded me soooo ferociously! It was on a college campus when I was there with my daughter. I was afraid to walk by it. But, I did, three times and each time it just gave me H....eck.

  16. kee-ooot.

I have come to accept them as visitors on my feeder now. I leave them a pile and leave the feeder full for the birdies too. It's all good.
And Chica loves watching them through the window...
Happy Wednesday night, Lovely One !

  30. Absolutely adorable, Beth!!! I know that squirrels are a dime a dozen but I adore them!!! I feed them all the time in the backyard and they each have a different personality. I even rescued one a few years back that apparently had fallen out of the nest and was being attacked by a couple of crows. I scooped him up and brought him home. He would sit on my shoulder while I was doing paperwork. A little lovey!! Thanks for sharing these pictures and PLEASE DON'T EVER question your picture taking abilities!!!!! : )
