no he's not, silly....but the cedar waxwings are

at least i think they're cedar waxwings, but please correct me if i'm wrong. all i know is that i came home from running errands yesterday to find fifty of these little masked faces staring at me. well, i didn't count them, but if i had, there would have been fifty. anyhow, i pulled into the garage, quietly shut my car door and tiptoed into the house. then i ran around room to room, like a ninja warrior, quickly removing my macro lens and getting my 70-300 lens set for "our" first bird photos of the season.
as soon as i walked out onto our driveway, a few of them flew away, but i was ready and caught one of the little burglars in action. don't you think they look like burglars? do you picture them painting each others faces with waterproof black eyeliner right before they take off for the day to entertain us or is that just me?
and then for the icing on my "bird sighting" cake...this cardinal. he flew into the tree next to where i was standing as if to say "enough already, they're freaking bandits." {and if you look closely, you can see him scowling at me} okay fine, mr. cardinal, you're gorgeously handsome, too. birds, they're so special.
Oh they are very pretty and do look like bandits. Our Magpies are little gang bangers and I'm sure they have switchblades hidden somewhere inside their gang colors. What imaginations we have, huh?

ReplyDeleteI don't think we have these little bandits in our neighborhood. For sure we don't have the cardinals, which I love seeing soooooo very much. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteLOL ok why was it so easy for me to visualize you pulling a ninja warrior? Perhaps cuz I've seen you do it. Cool pics! Wish I had your camera, or YOU, to capture the tree full of cardinals that hangs out in my yard. There's atleast 10 males and just as many females. Beautiful pics :)

ReplyDeleteLove your cedar waxwing images! I've never been able to capture one except for a faraway shot taken in Maine several years ago. Yes, they do look like bandits but are so pretty. Lovely cardinal shot here, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, I do love the bandits. Their feathers look so soft. And that cardinal did have a scowl on his face. (Although I have to admit that I've never noticed particular looks like that in birds.... But of course I will from now on!) Happy Spring to you, Beth! It looks like you'll be thawing out soon.

ReplyDeleteCedar waxwings are one of my favorites! Last year we had them come to stay for a good part of the summer, I was so happy. Surely this is a sign that spring has sprung!
