it can hide, but it can't run away...

have you found it
that inspiration you've been looking for
~~
mine has been running around like a mouse on crack
making me exhausted
and
forcing me to sit and be patient
~~
in case you were wondering
i'm not a patient person at all
and
i'm competitive
so
while I chase my inspiration around with a broom
failing miserably to catch it
i've become a bit bitter
that i haven't been able to grab it with my needy little hands
and
put it in a cage
just
so i can stare at it all day
~~
it's been really foggy here lately
for days
and
for many
the misty grey foggy mornings are inspiration
and
in the past they have been for me
too
~~
but today in my bitterness
i wanted to scream to the skies
"yes"
the mornings have been amazing
IF
i was writing a mystery novel that needed a description of
the valley
"layered with fog, stacked like old crumbling bricks"
where they found the family that careened off the highway
years ago
and
had mysteriously disappeared
in the ghostlike ravine
that made the town folk bow their heads when asked about it
~~
but
i'm not writing a mystery novel
or
anything else
where i need to talk about the
now almost taupey colored in places
~because the sun is starting to breathe~
gauze like fabric
that has wrapped itself around my home
and
tied a perfectly shaped bow on the front door
or
how the cheesecloth blanket of white
that greeted my eyes at dawn
was
slowly dancing in the wind outside my studio window
as gently as the veil on a bride
who speaks softly
while a tear runs down her cheek
and
she
whispers
"I do"
~~
nope
that damn beautiful misty fog
left me empty handed today without a bit of inspiration

And I think we are related, I literally just this minute finished my latest post, (i.e. bitterness) and came over to visit you...

  3. No inspiration, Ha! This is one of your most inspired pieces. Bring on the fog I say so it may send you to this place that wreaks and drips of untapped expression as it sits in waiting for you to stop, turn and to recognize this part of yourself. It's a bit greedy I know.

  4. me thinks winter has gotten the best of you! sit tight, it will be gone soon and your inspiration will be back on track! (although, to us out here in cyberspace, we never thought you lost it - and i believe i can speak for more than just myself~):-)

  7. *said in my most Britney Spears voice* 'Oh my GAWD, Beth, a famlee drove off a cliff? Right by your house? Oh my GAWD, and you found them, Beth? You solved the mistree, Oh my GAWD!'

I'm inspired to be silly this morning...it's not the fog. I think it's genetic. PS-not knocking Britney, I just love how she talks.

  9. now wait a darn minute...I believe there IS a mystery novelist in you - not far below the surface...just about to burst through the glossy smooth top like a swimmer coming up for air...
your writing has a way of connecting people. so whatever muses are present...misty, foggy, sunny, gauzy...you've captured them and i'm enjoying the read.

  20. This is a most wonderful piece of writing. Love it.
You are in the fog, yesterday I was watching the sun, then clouds, then snow that I mistook for cherry blossoms, then sun, then hail (my walkway looked like it was covered in popcorn) then sun. Was so strange...but made for some VERY interesting cloud formations as they wisked across the sky.

I love this post...want to read it again...

  25. I'm loving the colours of your new layout Beth, very calming :-)

Some days we just have to accept the lack of inspiration, or the explosion of it. Lovely post.
