I can finally talk about it...

{but first...textures are so cool}
okay
maybe I'm being a little dramatic
but
they declared it the worst storm in 33 years
and
when the university of wisconsin madison
shuts down
~which hasn't happened in 20 years~
well then
you know it's bad
~~
depending on what station you listened to
~when it was all over~
15.8 to 17.2 inches of snow fell in our area
in a very short time
and
then the wind showed up causing blizzard like conditions
then
our temperature dropped to -20
~
all of that in 48 hours
~~
party

the first photo
is our screened-in porch
which didn't take too much of a hit
but
the deck on the left side
still has at least a foot of snow on it
~~
after shoveling
and
watching my son do the snow blowing
I came inside and stripped off my wet layers
but
left my crazy leggings and socks on
just because the colors made me smile
I opened up the door in our bedroom
that leads to the above mentioned deck
just to take some snow photos
and
look at what mother nature had blessed me with
a snow heart
~you can see it can't you~
and
by the end of the day
I was still in my leggings but the socks had changed
~~
when you track in snow
and
your son tracks in snow
and
your dog tracks in snow
it's a given that your feet are going to get wet
and
you'll need a dry pair of socks

  4. That snowstorm was a blast!!! School was canceled in the evening for the next day so I called the neighbor kids over for an evening snow date with my kids!!! At one point I had eight kids playing and giggling and squealing in the back yard. I sent out hot chocolate and ate up every moment watching them and blissfully remembering my own childhood neighborhood full of kids playing in the snow. Snow days ROCK!!!!

  7. So sorry you ended up with all the white stuff, but on a lighter note... Yea!! So happy it missed us entirely for once!!

That is an impressive amount, and the consolation is definitely a heart shaped hole in the snow on the window :) That and getting to wear cool leggings with warm and dry socks!

  18. Nice shot, I like the hint of color behind the snow covered chairs. That's about how far out of the house I got that day. We got 16 inches. Also the socks rock!

  19. i start the morning with one pair of socks and throughout the day i crack open a few more pairs. often ending up with the first pair at the end of the day because they have finally dried.

  20. That's a lot of snow. Indeed you need warm, beautiful socks to keep the feet warm.

I just love the snow heart left by nature just for you.

  21. No wonder you hate winter and love Uggs. We usually get one, maybe two snows a season. Maybe 5 or 6 inches and it nearly shuts down the city.

  22. OMG...I heard about the university closing...yes that is bad. But you gotta love a snow day, warm socks, and a little love by mama nature :)

  28. My uncle taught at the university of wisconsin madison for many years... I remember that he had to teach no matter how much snow. He lived on a 50 acre farm in Brooklyn and sometimes had a rough time getting to the school. CRAZY!

  29. you would have to wrap me in at least 3 electric blankets. i'm not built for that.

hope you're staying warm and wonderful as always.

  32. Now, that is a LOT of snow...but I wonder how many people actually got a heart.

I love the socks...you looked all comfy and warm in them.

  33. Loved reading this. The snow is heading our way. We could get the same amount, and the high winds as well. It will shut things down here for a couple days, probably. This wouldn't have been a big deal from where I come from in Pennsylvania, but it is here down in Maryland!
    (Textures are awesome).

  34. I now live in Calif. but have lived in states that were notorious for the kinds of conditions you've discribed, so I so very relate!
This kind of weather is scary & dangerious too. But the way you look at things and handle situations is ONE of the many reasons I follow your blog. Kuddos 2 you! Your family is very lucky to have you. You are an insperiation to us all!....(maybe that's why you recived the snow heart:-}... )Kittie

  35. love
    your perspective and
how the snow just dusts the chairs like that.

    and a good pen
for when you need to be
    articulate, imaginative.

And how cool was that to have a snow heart on your door? That's definitely a little blessing of joy...
