i am not your friend....

i am NOT your friend. i am YOUR parent.
i will stalk you. flip out on you. lecture you. drive you insane.
be your worst nightmare and hunt you down when needed.
BECAUSE I LOVE YOU.
when YOU understand that, i will know you're a responsible adult.
YOU will never find someone who LOVES, prays, cares and worries about you more then ME.
this is MY PROMISE to you.

my friend jen, a mother of five {none that are teenagers yet} sent this to me. and i more then love it.
i thought you might you like it, too.
~
and
when she does have teenagers and has forgotten all about this, i will send it back to her.
she'll really need it then

  1. Oh that sign is too perfect, and to all parents of children now and in the past, that sign will ring true, and I'm sure, like me, they have said at one time or another, "I am not your friend, I am your parent!"
When you have your first child, they should have this printed in the handbook they give out. They do give out handbooks, don't they??

  2. Love it! I told my kids exactly that. Wish I'd had it on a poster so I could stick it on the wall of their bedroom to remind them 24/7!!

  6. Oh, so true, Beth! Parent Love - just when they think they don't need it and don't want it, they need it the most.

  7. How I wish my sister were still living...she would have LOVED it and she sure did need it on her wall. By the way her kids are older now and are pretty decent adults:)

  8. Yes ma'am! I was friends with our oldest because her mother remarried and carried her off to Indiana when the baby was 2 and I didn't see her again for 14 years. That didn't work. Our youngest is 19 and turned out just fine because I was always Daddy, no matter how tough it was. You see, she is our surprise child and came along when I was 38 and my current wife was 42. We didn't think we'd have any of our own but by then I had learned that any man can father a child but it takes a real man to BE a father.

  12. This is great!! You said this so much better and more succinctly than I could have. I read somewhere recently that the human brain actually takes 25 years to completely mature. Explains quite a lot, doesn't it? Hope you are well! I have a 31 year old that's driving me around the bend! I guess his brain is taking a little longer...figures...

  13. and it does not stop with the teen years..When I went through what I lovingly refer to as my 10 years in hell dealing with the ex, (in my late forties) my folks were still there doing their parent thing, being well..parents.
parents are not stamped with an expiration date. I don't have one anywhere I can see..... maybe on my butt? lol
