the perfect moment.....

a photographer went to a socialite party in new york city. as soon as she entered the front door,
the host said, "i love your pictures. they're wonderful. you must have a fantastic camera."
she said nothing until dinner was finished.
then...
"that was a wonderful dinner, you must have a fantastic stove."

if you're a dog groomer, i'll never compliment you on your shears.  and if you're a writer, i'll never compliment you on your pens. and if you're a painter, i'll never compliment you on your brushes.
today
let's raise our glasses to our beautiful talents
and
the ability to hold our tongues until the perfect moment

I've read that quote before and think of it often when I hear a similar remark. Clink, clink!

I've had people ask me about my camera equipment so many times that I began to believe that it was the camera and not me that got great shots. Time for a rethink. :0)

Such a great quote :) I just read this link ~ http://www.pixiq.com/article/10-photo-compliments ~ It's a good reminder for me. I can be guilty of both sides of this situation at times... insulted by a comment and have said the wrong thing at times. I sometimes use the word capture for my own photos and have used it commenting on others, not as an intentional insult, sometime I just feel that I've been place in a magic place to capture something, like yesterday during a foggy dewy magical morning! Yes all of my practice before the moment might help me create a 'work of art' but I often feel like I've just been lucky. I'm rambling, just thought it would be fun to chat around this with you ♥ Off to the studio to practice.

I love that - I'm actually the one who usually gives credit to my camera and lens when I'm given a complement, although I'd never give my pens or computer credit for my writing. Thanks for helping me put it into perspective! I'll be more gracious about accepting the next one! (gosh, I hope there's a 'next' one!)

Funny I had this similar chat with a close friend today. I was complimented today by two ex relatives by marriage about how LUCKY I was to have such great successful kids.

While smiling broadly I replied, "luck had nothing to do with it. I worked hard, gave lots of love, set boundaries, used discipline, gave encouragement and provided them a good education, and freedom to become their own persons. They in turn, learned well, listened well, worked very hard, and with respect for others and kindness in their hearts have turned into wonderful young adults, with great work ethics, a strong moral compass, and creativity oozing from their pores.
Luck was not there...Their Mother was and they were.

My friend thought I took it too personally. I felt it insulting to me as a parent and to my kids who deserve the kudos...maybe I need wine ..lol

smiling! Love this quote, but I hear you have a new camera. Will that make your pictures better. Yes, it is in the eye and talent of the person behind the camera. I noticed that just recently with my sons pictures. He has a different perspective than I do and I love it. Nice photo!

Great post. I am still smiling.

I had some paintings exhibited and one "gentleman" complimented my expensive looking custom frames. I passed it along to my framer. She was thrilled.

Fabulous! I must remember this advise. (Kind of like people who always have a "great ideas" that never get any further than their thoughts.)
