a gold star

we tried to stay home, but we needed food.
otherwise we'd have worked towards a guinness world record of how long two people can actually avoid finding themselves in the after christmas masses.

we avoided the before christmas masses with flying colors and if it had been a paper to be graded by the loving hand of a teacher, we would have gotten an A+ and a gold star and she would have asked us to present at the next mandatory assembly in the auditorium.

we did sneak out on christmas day and watched "the secret life of walter mitty." does everyone go to the theatre on the 25th? it sure seemed like it. anyhow, it started out a bit slow and a little odd, but then it grabbed our attention and inspired us. that's all i'm saying about it so that someone who hates it doesn't throw a dagger at me and someone who loved it doesn't ask why i didn't blow kisses all over it.

it will be a new year soon. do you have your word yet?

my word found me just the other day. i was standing at the desk in my studio, looking at some old photos on my computer and "it" literally reached out and wrapped itself around me. i instantly wrote it down, looked up every definition that "it" wears like an insanely loved prom dress and said yes.

i'll share it here on the first of january and i hope you have one to share, too.
right now i'm busy bundling up "disappointment" and all of "her friends" that visited {and unfortunately stayed too long} this year and deciding where i'm going to bury them to prevent them from ever EVER ever visiting again.

see you soon. in the new year. i think i'm going to love 2014.

  1. I do have my word. It came to me yesterday and unless something better comes along, it will stay. And like you I tried to avoid the crowds. We didn't hit the movie on Christmas but I think everyone else in town must have, just to keep warm. Of course, the theater may have lost power too. Well, you've probably seen the chronicle in FB. It certainly wasn't our dream Christmas but it was unforgettable!

Like you, I cannot wait to bid farewell to 2013. I'm thinking of having a burning the troubles ceremony on New Year's, even if it is just by myself. I think between mine and adding in some for friends, I could fill a rather large bowl!

  2. I did most of my shopping from my home (no, not the internet). I gave more items to my family that would have been left to them when I die. I decided about three years ago that I would enjoy seeing their faces when I gave them the items. And I was right!

  3. I'm looking forward to 2014 -- the end of 2013 kind of stunk the joint out -- with the exception of my baby being home! Tomorrow I have to go out to buy food...for all the ruined food from my fridge & freezer I have to toss out...NOT looking forward to that!! xoxo

  4. I'm still thinking of my 2014 word, but also committed to finishing the last days of 2013. I think I will have my own little New Year's eve celebration to end 2013.....those odd numbered years never are good for me!

  5. I think I have my 2014 word - still have a few days to reconsider. We also saw Walter Mitty on Christmas Day, only because our first two choices (Saving Mr. Banks and American Hustle) were sold out.

  6. I'll have to think about my word. Haven't thought until now. Like you I have avoided all crowds and traffic as much as possible. I'm ready to move to the country in Texas, if I only could. Happy New Year, Beth. xo Jenny

  7. I'm glad you chose to venture out and I would suggest you do the same today as beyond that looks frightfully cold! Lovely winter pics. I am not a fan of the cold either, as you know, but appreciating the beauty helps the sting a bit, no? ;)
Tomorrow is our anniversary and we were considering a movie. Will have to see if it fits in the day as the Packers come first! (not before our marriage, before a movie) Then again.... ha ha ha!

  8. You mean you don't enjoy fighting for a parking spot and mingling with the stressed out crowds who are frantically positioning themselves at the check out register? Me either. LOVE Amazon. Great photos, and my word is commit. Have a great new years if I don't connect with you before then.

  9. I can't wait to hear your word. This year is going down in the history epic shit years. There were some good things in 2013…no doubt, but most of nearly killed me. *sigh* Good times! ;)

  10. I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who hates the mall. My mom can shop lil a champ and enjoys it (she also can find the best bargains ever), but I did not inherit that gene from her. I am still pondering my word, it hasn't come to me as easily as in the past. Here's to a great 2014 to you and your family!

  11. No shops for me, either. I haven't gone anywhere besides church and out to eat once since the 23rd! I like this staying close to home for now.

  12. I've been relishing my days with sweet little Harper Ann though Christmas found me totally pain ridden with a flare up of my kidney stones. Aside from making an appearance to watch my cherub tear the wrapping off her presents and nibble on the tags, I stayed in bed for almost two full days. As for a word, haven't thought of one yet. The only one that comes to mind right now is "pain" and that just won't do.

  13. I did want to see that movie. I don't think I shopped once at the local mall. I either got it online or at small stores in the area. Mostly online, though. And I didn't get much.

If I don't stay busy, I get stuck and kind of sad. So I am keeping busy needless to say.

  14. I didn't see a movie on Christmas Day, but I saw one a couple of nights ago -- Frozen. I liked it! It's heartwarming, which is funny, considering that it's about a possible eternal winter.

    your snow is beautiful.

  17. I can't wait to see what your word is. I met one yesterday that I think is "it" but I'm trying not to rush into a relationship. :) Wishing you a beautiful 2014! xoxo

  19. I've had several words floating around... thought I found "it," only to forget "it" not long after. Can't wait to hear what your word is. Hopefully, I'll have one to share, too. Happy New Year!

  20. i think i am going to love it too. Happy new year Beth. I have been in hibernation from blogging (and all online existence) for the last six months. But I am back here (http://capturingjoyeveryday.blogspot.com/). Please come say hi :)

  21. Walter Mitty was...different. Didn't love it, but didn't hate it. Looking forward to your "word." I am just struggling to keep one foot in front of the other and keep clicking with my camera, so no word for me this year. I am inspired by others, though. So hurry and share! :)
