I should know what I'm doing...

but
I feel like I'm all thumbs
~~
I went to school for dental assisting when I was 18
then
worked as assistant off and on for 8 years
while specializing in ortho
and
now that I'm 45
you'd think it would be like a riding a bike
~~
but no
instead I feel like I've never seen the inside a mouth before
~~
my daughter had her wisdom teeth out years ago
and
it all went pretty well
and
really I don't remember any of it
except assisting the doctor on a sunday morning
for an emergency visit
when she got a blood clot the size of a golf ball
and
he couldn't get one of his girls to come in
~lucky me~
~~
but
now my son just had his wisdom teeth out yesterday
and
the bloody gauze and ice packs
and
him pale from not eating
and
him not eating because it hurts
and
it hurting because he's not eating so I can't give him his pain medication
arrghhhhh
~~
gosh I love being a mom
edited
he finally ate and wouldn't stop and I got his medicine into him
and
he slept through the night
~
maybe
this won't be so bad after all

so how's your day
?
~~~~~
and
ummm yes, I know these photos have nothing to do with wisdom teeth, but with
halloween this weekend and a gazillion pumpkin photos that I took
well, you know
~
~anyone else gagging over all christmas displays in all the stores already
or is just me~
  6. love the perspective of that first picture. it's great.
    sorry to hear about all the wisdom teeth problems. hope your son feels better soon. i can all to well relate to his pain though. i've had all four of my wisdom teeth removed and for some time after i had pain. but, like all things this will pass.
    hope you get some measure of relief soon too. it's difficult seeing your child go through pain of any kind.
  7. Pumpkins are fine! I don't think I'd want to see anyone getting their wisdom teeth pulled. :) I had mine pulled a few years ago. Not fun. I feel for him.
    Yes, tired of the Christmas already. I swear I think they put it on display earlier and earlier every year! Next thing you know, we'll be buying ornaments on July 4th!
  8. glad your kiddo was finally able to eat. sounds like things will improve a bunch now.
  9. Beth, I went to school to be a dental assistant when I was 20. I really liked the ortho part of it, but then I didn't stay in that field. A few years later I became a dental lab technician and made dentures and I did that for quite a few years. I've forgotten a lot too, like which tooth is number 18, etc.
    I hope your son feels better soon and that his socket heals quickly.
    Christmas is my very favortie holiday, but yes, it is a little irritating that Xmas decorations are out before halloween is over.
    I bet Valentine's stuff will be out by the end of December. It's crazy.
  11. Now you'll always be able to remember what time of year it was that he had his wisdom teeth out ... pumpkins will spring to mind! Does he like pumpkin pie ... that would go down easily! Hope each day shows improvement! Since I find myself hiding out from the crowds lately I haven't been tortured with seeing those displays, but they would bug me too!
  13. I just retired from 21 years as a forensic nurse - 45 years in nursing...but always thought dentistry was so difficult! Working in that small space - gads. And folks rarely seem to appreciate their dental visits - although, in the last few years, I have found the most wonderful dentist of my life. I even wrote a YELP review about him.
    Isn't it funny, though, I always flinched when my boys had any sort of medical procedure. When Alex was a baby and had to undergo a spinal tap, I nearly died. I can handle anyone else's trauma, just hard when it is my own kids!
  14. Glad your son is feeling better! Love the pumpkin photos...can't get enough! And yes, I am gagging over the xmas dispays... This year Target and Michael's thought it would be a good idea to put the Halloween and Xmas stuff on display at the same time! What the....???!!! And now, even before Halloween everything is on clearance and xmas is totally taking over. I am not ready...
  16. Yucky wisdom teeth...too bad they were ever invented! I've been through too, for myself and my kids (when they were kids). Somehow we all survive but it is yucky for a few days. My day is better, I think. I am off to the Los Angeles Zoo with my 2 year old grandson...should be better except for the dang traffic getting there and then getting home. Unfortunately I need to go both ways with the traffic...Yucky!
  18. I'm trying not to look at the Christmas displays yet. Love your pumpkins, especially the one with the wagon. Your photos are the very best.
    Good luck with the healing for your son. Glad he was able to sleep.
  19. Oh my gosh..I am already seeing houses with Christmas lights!! It must be the inner child dying to get started early...or something.
    Wishing for your son, a speedy recovery.
  20. Having wisdom teeth pulled is no fun...I commiserate with your son...AND you as a Mom not being able to really do that much about it! And yes, I can't believe they are displaying Christmas decorations already. In my day...nothing came out before Thanksgiving!
  21. Ooo...you're making me shudder. I HATE the dentist! Although kids these I think are luckier because they didn't go thru the scary things we did as kids at the dentists. Hope he feels better soon.
    And, yes, I'm gagging over the chrsitmas displays, but I have to admit I did stop to look at a particularly nice old fashioned Santa today!
    And yes, the Christmas displays have been bugging me since, oh... December! And I'm one of those goofy people who loves Christmas and loves to decorate for it. But it's seriously overdone now. Sigh.
  30. my siblings and I were all born with no wisdom teeth. Reading this post just reminded me how lucky we are. So far we have no idea how many children it passed on to... it is a great condition to have. Sorry to hear about your son! hang in there.
  31. Nope, not just you. Christmas should begin the day after Thanksgiving. Not one minute sooner.
    Oh well.
