wintertime intermission....

that's what jennifer called my time here in florida
and
i pretty much love that
~
not a vacation. not time away. not a reprieve.
"a wintertime intermission"
so here's the big question of the day
"does he or does he not eat the washed up jellyfish"
BUT WAIT
don't go to google. just take a guess.
~
thank you everyone for the debate/discussion regarding watermarking. it was a good one.
there are so many opinions to what's right or wrong. what's good about it. what's bad about it.
why do it. why forget about it.
at this point, i'm still a bit conflicted. the biggest reason being the need to save my photos twice.
one set with watermarking and one set without. i'm wondering if those of you who only share low resolution photos, also save a copy in high resolution for yourselves.
~
oh the woes of protecting ourselves. darn you thieves. darn you.
~
(and no, i didn't have a photo of mine stolen and used in a gallery. thank god. that was just a "what if" question of something i thought would be really horrible)

  1. I'm thinking they do not eat jellyfish. I got stung by one on that very beach..and OOOOH my LORD did it hurt.. for a week!!! I had to soak my feet in meat tenderizer and vinegar, like, every few hours to tolerate the sting.

  3. I'm guessing that they do.. and that you have a photo to prove it.

  4. It looks as though he may be wondering what to do with it himself.

  5. I so hope he doesn't eat it! But it's a beautiful picture regardless.

  6. I love the colours of this picture. Have you thought about putting Copysafe on your weblog? I think it costs a little, but that way your pictures could not be right-clicked and downloaded.

I wonder too if you have them open in one of those new lightboxes blogger has, if that prevents them from being right-clicked too.

  7. Do what you can to protect your photo's. Ultimately if someone wanted to snag them they will find a way. Just do what you can and don't worry about it I guess the other alternative is not put them where others can snag them. There is always risk on the internet no matter what you do.

  8. I always save full resolution photos. I put all my photos in iPhoto (I have a Mac), then I also upload to my Kodak account, and lastly I put all my photos by month/year onto disks for filing. One to use and one to archive. I should as my daughter says, put them on an external hard drive which I haven't. My Kodak account I can download in full resolution as well.

  9. I'm guessing no the jellyfish! I save a high resolution copy of image as well as using a low resolution image for online. Ultimately you have to go with what you feel is the right option for you.

  10. I think I missed that discussion. I must read on. Love the neutral white-on-white in this photo, though!

  14. That is exactly why I most often don't watermark is the saving twice. I will have to read other responses on this one for sure.

Yes, he eats the jellyfish - at least I think so.

  16. I would have to say no, only because I have seen lots of gulls and lots of jellyfish, but have never seen a gull eat a jellyfish. I could be wrong. Is this a trick question?

  17. Oh my gosh.
I clicked on to your blog and took a huge gasp as I saw the first photo. This is so beautiful, Beth! The soft colours, and simple subject matter. Oh. Love it.

And I'm guessing he pecked at it for a little while. I mean, he is standing in front of it for a reason, right? He must have shown some interest.... but after a few nibbles, I think he realized that it tasted a little prickly (the stingers and all), and moved on. Am I right?

  19. Love these seagull shots!

I always wonder about photos too. Part of me figures if people really want to steal something they'll do it anyway. It's sad we even have to worry about it.

  20. Well, since I an behind and read your latest post, no fair for me to answer ... but I would have said yes!
And as far as the watermarking ... oh, so much more work to do and save and store! Ugh!

  21. As for watermarking... I save a full resolution, I save one edited and 'watermarked' (if I edit on Picasa, I just sign my name) and then I share on my blog in lower resolution, mostly because it's a faster upload if I resize it. On FlickR, I generally use high resolution.
