what is a quince.....

this old church doesn't really sit in a field, but from my perspective when i shot it, it does.
isn't it funny how perspective works. i know without a doubt, that if i had taken this photo from any other place or any other angle, it would have been a very ordinary photo.

while i was out driving last week, i came upon these magnificent things growing in the backyard of a business in sauk city. yep, a business with a backyard and technically i wasn't really trespassing,  although i did have a lady watching me from her car, acting like she wasn't.
anyhow. what are they?

some of my readers told me they were quince and i googled it and they were right
who knew
{obviously they did}
all i know, is that they are not apples and they were not growing from an apple tree.

am i the only one who loves "where in the world is matt lauer" and will be glued to the television this week watching him every morning, or do you love this segment of the today show, too?

and
just one more thing.
many of you asked me about lightroom {LR} and yes, you can download a free 30 day trial of it. i highly suggest that you watch many of the videos that go with it though, or you will be lost. you can find those on youtube and they will totally be worth your time.
also, the 400 page book for LR 3 is fantastic.

happy monday everyone

  8. The photo of the church is VERY nice. I am spending so much time on LR, learning a lot, but I think I need to watch a video to understand a couple more things that I think would help me. A 400-page book? Um, I don't think I could get through much of that, but I'll keep it in mind:-)

  18. There is definitely something special with the artist eye that photographed the church, just wonderful! I see quince in the market, but never sure what to do with them or to take a chance on them. Maybe I will soon.

  23. That church photo is breathtaking.

When I was a kid we had a quince bush in the backyard, and I used to make little ladies out of the flowers that are shaped like dresses. I haven't thought of that in years. :)

  24. oh, gosh! i echo what kelly said... breathtaking church photo! i took a similar photo in vermont several years ago... it looked like there was a roof of a barn just sitting smack dab in the middle of a field, because you could not see that the field was elevated on a hill and the barn was beyond on a lower plane. it all looked like the same plane. so all you could see was the barn roof. it was pretty neat.

never heard of a quince. never seen one either.

would you believe i have never seen a w.i.t.w.is.matt.lauer before? i guess i have been hiding under a rock. where in the world is g.b.? yep... under a rock. =)

  27. I'm behind because I downloaded the free trial and love it - and would you believe amazon offered it half price, so I did get my second chance and jumped on it! Taking a break now to catch up then I'm back on it. Love the church shot, didn't know what a quince was and yes, I follow Matt every year on his world travels, full of envy and living vicariously!

  28. Beautiful photo of the church, in a sea of wheat (or whatever)--such glorious color! And the quince! Wish I'd seen that photo last week, when I read The Owl and the Pussycat to a bunch of 3 year-olds; it would have helped me explain it. Oh, well.

    Congratulations on your POTW!

I am definitely interested in LR but don't dare even download the trial until I get a new computer...don't know when that will ever be but this one is pretty chock full...

I made a promise to myself that I will not turn on the tv during the day....so Matt is out I am afraid:) I do however love the Amazing Race!

  34. That tight shot of the quince -- it could win a prize. Absolutely wonderful. What a great card it would make. I'd buy them! And the church shot with those soft, lovely colors -- again, fabulous.
