bee butts.....and the first of october

"the bees are so bad this year" seems to be part of every conversation this fall. well, they are bad. really bad. my sister-in-law got stung when she was visiting from seattle a few weeks ago and my little sister's dog eats them.

guess what, the stink bugs are really bad this year, too.

i don't know what it is about pumpkin patches that i love, but oh, they get me every year. lucky for me, my sister and her hubby have a "patch" filled with pumpkins and gourds and this year we even found chinese lantern plants growing...and she didn't even know they were there.

see...the surprises, love and magic of fall.

i have to tell you that i love when all the new shows start up in the fall and so far, i am loving "blacklist" with james spader. he's just creepy enough to make it work and the show often makes me think of "silence of the lambs" for some reason. have you seen it?

did anyone watch "betrayal" on sunday night? is that one going to make it? at first i wasn't loving the main characters, but by the end, they had grown on me.

i hope wherever you are that fall is embracing you, or that you're embracing fall and that your  relationship continues long into the month of october.

  1. Lucky you that you have a pumpkin patch for easy pickin'....I agree, The Blacklist hit it out of the ballpark, James Spader, the perfect character actor. Have Betrayal taped, but haven't watched yet. I did watch Revenge and I guess I get easily confused as to what is going on....my memory must be bad from what happened last year.

  2. I love your "bee butts"...it's not bees here it's yellow jackets....Sweet fisherman has been bitten three times recently and it seems no matter what he sprays in the holes they just multiply faster....Your shot of the bee eating dog is awesome; he's beautiful...Maybe it's from all the honey he's digesting.....(just a little bee humor)
And thanks yes fall is embracing me and I am loving it...Came to the mountains a day early to have an embracing day all to myself....

  3. Yes, I've been watching The Blacklist! Normally, it's not my kind of show, but I am really liking it. The first viewing I remarked to hubby that there was a Hannibal Lecter quality. Glad you noticed that too.

  4. Lets see what are we watching........ Covert Affairs... Sleepy Hollow...... Castle... Revolution.... thats all i can think of at the moment..... the one thats losing us is Bones.... used to love the show but ever since everyone got married i think they've lost that sexual tension that really helped the show....ah well plenty to move on to... Have not checked out Blacklist.... Hugs! deb

  5. I was stung this year for the first time in about 50 years. It itched for over a week. I'm glad the bees are doing well but they should leave me alone.

  6. What is it with the bees and stink bugs? It seems that just this week we're seeing a huge increase. I just went to shut a window because I looked up and counted 15 of the "stinkers" crawling all over my screen. No telling how many more are right underneath - yikes!

  7. Hi ya bee lady. I hope it's all over soon and the bees will go in hibernation. And the bee-eating dog is such a beauty. YOU made a stunning picture of him. ;0

  8. It would be nice to have a bee eating dog here, the yellow jackets are everywhere and those are the ones that like to sting me in two's. Other bees and I get along and we live together in harmony. I do love pumpkin patches and hard shell gourds. I did grow some gourds one year, they do attract those stink bugs for some reason.

    Stunning photograhpy.

  9. Are the stinkbugs the ones that look like ladybugs but orange? I haven't seen many. But I have seen lots of bees. I suppose that's a good thing, given that they were ort of endangered, but I'm not liking the wasps... I just harvested my gourds this year. A nice crop! Feels like fall.

  10. When I walk outside my library everyday to get the mail, I have to dodge the wasps...they are so plentiful this fall. Still waiting for the Asian Beetles to show up! You know, I've never heard of a dog eating bees....really?

  11. I love Sydney the bee eating dog.
No new shows for me, I would rather curl up with a good book.
    Happy Autumn!

  13. The wasps and stink bugs were bad for us last year, but happily, nothing is too bad this year. I wonder why the difference?

  14. Liking Black List too.
Can't believe October is here. I am sitting in my studio with flipflops on and planning to head to the beach this afternoon when the temps may reach 80 on October 2. How cool is that ?
Love fall, especially ones like this !
    Enjoy, Sweetie !

  15. Our sweet little beagle was stung three times this year. And yes, The Blacklist is great. James Spader is so good. And that photo of the bees is amazing.

  16. I love Fall, always have, always will. Maybe it is the born and raised New England girl in me. Maybe Fall is why I have never moved to a warmer climate despite my dread of winter.

Anyway loved your post and wanted to say Sydney looks like an awesome beekeeper!

  17. I hate when I miss one of your posts, like this one. That pumpkin shot is just fabulous! Hmmm. I haven't gotten in on the new shows yet. We're a Parenthood (although it's a little too real really for me), Modern Family, Project Runway, and Survivor kind of family. There's just not enough time in the day or night for me to catch all the shows that I'd like to see.

  18. Great series. We usually have yellow jackets chasing hummingbirds but this season I saw none. That makes we worry a bit for their welfare. All your pics are beautiful.
