January 2, 2010

have a seat, the doctor will be with you in about a day or so

I had my word for
2010
already chosen
~months ago actually~
and
just like that
I changed my mind
::
last year my word was
focus
and
the year before that it was
see
and
now
~drum roll please~
my word for 2010
which should be on a sticky note and stuck to my forehead is
patience
because
I have none
::
okay
I have some
but
most days
it's so minuscule in size that you'll never see it
::
traffic
waiting rooms
lines for anything
being put on hold while on the phone
food that takes days to reach my table while eating in a restaurant
::
nothing ever seems to move fast enough for me
well actually
it's people
that never seem to move fast enough for me
and
I've decided
this is my year
to relax a bit more
and
to be more understanding
::
now
let me explain one thing though
before you decide I'm a bit crazy
~
if I'm prepared to wait
my patience wears a cape and a tiara and is ready to save the world
::
if I've been told my car will take 2 hours to be fixed
and
I have my ipod and journal and a good book with me
well then
I love sitting in the cozy waiting room at the garage
::
if my flight is delayed
you know I have the same above mentioned items with me
and
my laptop
so life is good and since I love to watch people
I welcome the visual stimulation
::
but
if the moron in front of me is driving 15 miles an hour
~on a 2 lane road with nowhere to pass~
in a 25 mile per hour zone
and
I can't move at the speed my body requires necessary to process
the oxygen I breathe
well
you can be pretty much guaranteed that my blood pressure will rise
and
a horn will be honked
and
if I get close enough to see the driver face to face
and
they aren't elderly or have any medical conditions
but
instead they have a cell phone in their hand and they're texting
and
smoking a cigarette
well
let's just say
~
wait
NO
let's not say anything at all
let me just get my sticky pad
and
write
you are a flippin idiot
patience
in big bold letters
on it
and
attach it to my dashboard
::
which somehow will make me feel better
when I flip them off
~with my eyes of course~
::
choosing a word for the year
has gotten to be something that many of us are doing
if you want to join
please do and jump in with both feet
is linking some of us up
if you need a starting place

  1. I could use that word as well, but I'll give a bit more thought and see if I can come up with my own. Great post and I can totally relate!

  2. Maybe you'll wait patiently until you get the right opportunity to actually flip them off! You'll still be practicing patience.... right?

  3. well, you couldn't choose the word funny because you've got that covered! i love practicing patience! my dad used to (and probably still does) driving around town at 15 mph just to tick folks off. i used to tell him that i could run faster than he was driving. patience, i understand. i am so excited about going through another year seeing all the greatness you have to offer us here (almost) everyday!

  4. oh honey....anytime I ask for patience I get tested so fasten your seat belt. :) but it's a good word and a good thing to have.

  7. i've been working on developing my word... going to post in on my journey to inspired blog sometime this weekend! patience is a good one, one that i need to work on as well! ps: you make me laugh with your crossed out message :)

  8. I love your word... we probably could all work on that. It will be a good focus.
    ok, so let me share something that has helped me... with driving specifically... I always imagine the worst... So when someone does something driving that probably deserves my frustration, I think about how their morning could have gone, maybe their bathtub overflowed and the carpet and sheetrock are all ruined, Or if they cut me off, i bet that their pregnant wife is in the hopspital about to deliver their first baby, or maybe their mother-in-law was just in a car accident somewhere and they need to get there quickly, anyway, you get the idea... my kids and I talk about what might be in the car and it takes all the frustration energy away pretty easily. Try it... 15 mph, maybe they just moved here from a different country and are still learning to drive or the text they just got told them that their husband who is away on business was in a plane crash... you just never know.
    Good luck with your waiting.
    :)

  10. I put my comment on the wrong posting. Here it is again.

    Two buzzards sitting on a high wire. One says to the other, "Fuck patience, I'm gonna kill something."

    Good Luck

  11. I agree with Char... Someone told me that when you ask for patience God will test your will. But I think it's a perfect word choice! I never knew patience until I had kids...they test me everyday!

  12. Patience, Grasshopper...some of my favorite Rock My World rock words. Good for all of us. Here's to keeping that word in focus !

  13. Ohhh jeezzz I always say that when Patience was distribute by God I was the most last in line...since I've got NON! That means when it comes to lines, orders for diner, people that are in my way when I do the groceries....what ever line.
    So Yep it's a darn good word...yet I long for another one. So let me soak on that a little more.

    Thanks though for pointing this out and sending it into space. And for being so frank and open about it.

    See you around on the highway with postit memos all over the car when you try to talk to the other drivers. :-))))))

  15. I think we may have a bit in common,
    patience, I'm still laughing...

  16. ...seems the only time I get behind a slow driver is when I'm in a hurry...what's up with that?

    Patience is a good virtue to have...Happy New Year Beth:)

  17. Oh,Beth, you are wonderful! I, too, am not so patient...I tell people that I am sixty-five, that my days are numbered and I sure as hell don't have time left on this earth to waste anymore!

  18. Yikes! I chose Patience one year and it was scary how I was tested on that one. Good luck! This year my word is JOY! I think it is safe.

  19. I am sorely lacking patience too. Here's hoping for a "patient" 2010 for both of us.

    Cheers

  20. patience helps us appreicate the moment...

    enjoy living in the moment

  21. Patience is a great goal, the vast majority of people either don't have enough to begin with or lose it all to quickly.

    My word is peace.

    ReplyDelete
  22. oh yeah, i was also right at the back of the line when patience was being handed out... love your post, rings a few bells, hee hee heee

    ReplyDelete
  23. GregoryJ said it just right!! LOL!!
    And you should be careful what you ask for....patience is a really tough one. Asking for it sets you up for alot of testing in that area. So good luck to you and your new journey. You are going to need it.
    My word is TRY....!
    Hugs

  25. You've heard it over & over I'm sure but my word is Trust. Me, the doubter, worrier will try to trust.

  26. I love the idea of choosing a word to focus on during the year, rather than a litany of resolutions.

    And the photo and caption in connection with your post gave me a little giggle.

  27. I have learned to think of those times where I am not prepared to "wait" as found time...time that I didn't know I was going to have. Time that I can just sit and enjoy the quiet, or the book on tape, or the song on the radio.

    found time...

  28. I've been contemplating my word for the year as well lately. I had one and just like you said, it changed in an instant when another one picked me!

    Patience wasn't always one of my greatest virtues, but my better half has helped me become more so. It is definitely a process :D

  29. terrific post, Patience is a word most of us could use more of especially in traffic (I am a worst offender) .
    Happy 2010

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL...I've been tempted to change my word to journey but I guess I will stick with my word...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good word, Beth. I think our words are in sync. I cannot wait to see what 2010 brings us.

    I sure hope it isn't slow drivers... Have I mentioned that people drive their golf carts in this town? Hello? Right in front of you and like they own the road? Do you know the top speed of a golfcart? You must be a master of patience to drive in this town, little grasshopper...

    Much love to you...

    ReplyDelete
  32. That word was floating around my consciousness for a while there too...and not just for the waiting-in-line kind of patience, but the kind of patience needed to see my dreams or goals realised. Some of them are going to require a huge amount of patience that might take longer than just one year, so I am still waiting for my word to find me...it is 5 days late.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Great word choice Beth. That word in my world is tested on an average about 60 times an hour I would say! I need a word- an original word...I will be working on finding one SOON!

    ReplyDelete
  34. See, another reason I hate driving. Someone I know, may flip me off! lmao!!
    Stay warm, my friend.
    Hugs!
