rocks and sand make me play like a four year old.....

last week, just because we could, we took off for a few days. the idea of flying anywhere was a bit overwhelming with our short notice of "oh my gosh, we can actually leave town," so with just a handful of days to play with, we winged it with a road trip.

we headed north to kohler, south to milwaukee, east on the car ferry to muskegon, michigan, south to holland, michigan down and around to chicago and finally north to head back home. guess what? we do road trips really well. the food {oh my gosh did we eat} was the most memorable part of the trip. well, that and the outdoor hot tub. the weather pretty much sucked, as it was much cooler than what was originally forecasted, but even with my semi constant whining about being cold, i survived. in the middle of lake michigan, on top of the ferry, there was a nano second where i almost froze to death. seriously, i did.

we actually came back a day earlier than planned, which worked out fantastically as we were blessed with a day warm enough to take a glorious walk. i actually like to say we went hiking since i wore my hiking boots and we walked three to four miles, but if anyone was watching us they'd say, "nah, that's a walk."

nothing special about my seagull here, but oh my bokeh is simply divine. snort.

this is probably a special lighthouse or something on the milwaukee side of lake michigan, but honestly i don't really know for sure. history and i don't really know each other very well. that rocky relationship started way back in middle school and has just never really taken off.

probably another history making lighthouse...or something.

i hope the long weekend treated all of you wonderfully and that the start of summer in your neck of the woods {hello al roker} has you all smiling and dancing in the sunshine.

What a fun trip, although I know I WOULD have frozen to death on a ferry crossing Lake Michigan, even in the summer! Yikes! And your bokeh is fabulous, as always!

  4. I have several small stacks of stones like that on a shelf in my bedroom. I picked them up on a beach on Lake Michigan last year. Very calming.

And hello!!!! Were you IN Chicago? Where were you?

Beautiful shots!! I'm smiling at your nearly freezing on the ferry -- we stood on the deck of the ferry over the Irish Sea last week and the winds were gale force...so I made sure to head inside and watch the view -- nothing like taking off for a few days and just feeling the freedom of travel!

  6. I love the photos, especially the stack of rocks on the beach. We have relatives who live practically on Lake Michigan. We've never visited though. Maybe we should.... Glad you had a chance to play!

I have to say before the inspiration leaves, Your seagull 'nothing special about my seagull', is really really wonderful. Bokeh is over the top perfect, but your light on this seagull, which we never experience seagulls here in northern New Mexico, is awesome. Such a soft delicate country blue with such a state of Grace about her. very serene and peaceful. When I get to buy art again I really want to come back and see if you have this listed at all.

    peace n abundance,

  14. It was fun (and funny) to read about your travels. Travel is the ultimate escape.

My favorite photo is the seagull. I stared at it for a long time. And the rocks; the first word coming to mind-- balance.

And that is what we ALL should strive for.

  15. Looks like a great trip from here! Glad you had a fun get-a-way. History? Same relationship here. If you would have started explaining the date, name and history of those lighthouses? My eyes would have probably glazed over and I would have skipped on to the next pretty picture! It's not that I have no interest in history, it's my memory that doesn't. ;) Best let the pictures speak for themselves.

  18. I am with you on the history. In high school my American history teached put me to sleep regularly. I never got over it.

Nice that you could get out and about.

  23. There is nothing like a good road trip! Love these beach photos...they even look a lot like RI:)

On the long weekend we took a day long road trip to NYC/Brooklyn and would have loved to stay longer but now we need to deal with a 17year old dog at home. Just when the nest is empty there is something else holding us back lol!
