it's just not fitting yet.....

like many of you, for the past five years, i have chosen "a word" to be my beacon of light that helps guide me through the new year. this year, nothing seems to fit right. i've been trying on so many words that i'm practically raw.

i applaud those who easily grasp words with their bare hands, slide them into the pocket of their favorite jeans and continue walking forward like nothing has happened. i on the other hand, tend to interview my words, make them do a bikini walk across an imaginary stage and then wait patiently for them to "wow" me with their talent.

for some reason, my word has to be a verb. i don't know why, but i feel that if i'm going to adhere to what a single word can possess, it's has to be a "doing" word. for example, i love the word "today" but for me it can't stand alone. instead it would be more like "live only for today" or "today is the only day that counts" and well, you see...then i have lots of words to deal with and the whole "word thing" is to have only one word.

so i'm being patient {which is something i am not known for around these parts-hi family} because i know a word will find me. one always does...and when it does, i'll proudly display it on my heart, which is always on my sleeve, and easily seen.

  1. Cheers! You made me spit my coffee as I read about the word doing a bikini walk and wowing you!!

I didn't do a word this year...I'm going au naturel..wordless, naked (no bikini! think about that...and you'll spit your tea! hee!)...free wheeling it!

I have to say, given what you've said here, I think "patience" is your word...it's hovering over top of you like a comic book speech bubble!! :)

  2. I've mentioned that I don't have one word for the year. But right now I like the word "thoughtful" because it fits into so many parts of my life. Living each day with thought instead of just "doing" makes sense to me right now.

  3. Don't you worry Beth...your word is on its way and when you'll meet each other you'll know. Or maybe this year you're going wordless? like Sherry

Be sure to let us know which ever way it takes you.xo

  4. I'm too crazy and flighty to choose one word... or perhaps one of those words should be my word.

  5. Gosh, I did not make my word jump thru hoops, but it was my first year doing it. I only interviewed three and wish I could have chosen them all. Three is my favorite number so maybe I should have taken them all. To heck with the rules. lol Hope your word finds you soon. Bet it will land on you when you're not looking. :)

  6. I love "today", but I get your need for a verb.
In the meantime, living loving being today is a great way to pass the time until your word finds you.
    Big old hugs, Missy !
    Love ya !

  10. perhaps you have already found your word, and are living it right now. perhaps it is in this experience of waiting, trusting, being patient, discerning, trying ...

  11. I totally get it. My Word has to be a verb too. I even thought my Word was all set once, but Trust then found me. Boy, is it ever using me too. Or, am I using it? Well, it is the One for me, clearly. Hmmm, sometimes it's so There, that it's not just a verb either...it just IS. Wow.

  12. leap

it's a verb and it reminds me of you and your jumping pictures. i almost wrote humping pictures so it's a good thing i corrected myself.

  13. I have never chosen a word for a new year. I like the idea of it though.

  14. i've stopped looking for this year's word. i too have always chosen a verb - i need to feel movement of some kind, even if it's just breathe or scream or stop. but this year, nada. and i am fine with that. i think perhaps there's a some kind of movement in the not caring. :)

  15. hahahaha Kate :) I don't think we want to see the humping pictures although Beth has shown us a few questionable shots from the zoo in the past :)

So maybe a word hasn't found you b/c maybe you shouldn't be looking for a verb. Maybe it is your year to learn to "be still." I am not saying in an opinionated way b/c that is what I think you need; but just as a thought. I know I struggle with always having to "do" something. But sometimes we need to just sit and listen or know (although those are, indeed, verbs). "Be still and know that I am God" is a favorite verse of mine from the Psalms.... but I wrestle with it. Anyway, just a thought from my own crazy unsettled brain.

  16. When I first started having a word it wasn't necessarily for a whole year, but maybe only a couple months. When the time the word will find you, that is for sure. In the meantime, go out and play!

  17. Hi Beth, You will find a word, this year my word is hope for each day, but I may change that. maybe this minus 43 weather has me a little off....all I can think of is I hope, hope, hope, it warms up. lol. Actually it is supposed to be warmer by the weekend. I like the word jump for you too....you always seem to be jumping forward and upward to your next adventure. hugs.

  21. I never thought of having a word for the year. I applaud you for tackling that. I have managed to, finally, have my shoulder replacement surgery, at least. Now, I wonder why I put it off for over two years ( sometimes, being a nurse, is NOT a good thing ). My orthopedist was right. I felt better the day after surgery can I do today before. The arthritis pain was completely call. It is a hassle not being able to use my left arm six weeks and I dread the start of physical therapy. When my grandchild arrives on around the end of April, I should be able to hold him/her without any problems. Hopefully,I'll be able to go back to India by June 1. maybe I should come up with a nice Indian word this year.

  22. Maybe it will come, maybe it won't. My word for this year is YES...and yes, I am working on it.

  23. Your word will come and it will rock that bikini!!

  24. I can identify with your struggle. When you mentioned the word today and your fondness for it, I immediately thought "to be present" ... present in the moment of today.

  25. You're auditioning words? Well, I hope one wins the talent show soon. I've never chosen a word, but I'll be interested to learn yours.

  28. You will find the world if you are meant to and when you do, you'll know. And yes, you are allowed to not have one for a year!

  29. I think a word has to find you;
maybe it's just taking it's own sweet time about it
    and grinning all the while
(maybe it knows the patience thing
and that just cracks it up:))
I love it that you're not just picking one
out of the grab-bag just to say
    "there, it's done."
I really, really love that about you!
