warm, word and waiting.....

christmas arrived and then quietly disappeared, just like it does every year. there were lots of laughs, love, gifts, a funny song and yummy food. unfortunately, i made the mistake of eating too many tiny "pigs in a blanket" at my sister's house christmas eve and spent the whole night suffering with a migraine. i just wasn't thinking. i never eat anything with nitrates or nitrites and somehow my internal sensor that keeps me away from foods like hotdogs/sausages/bacon etc. wasn't on. thankfully, by christmas morning i was back to my normal self. granted, i was hugely sleep deprived, but i was migraine free and that's all that really matters after a night like i had.

i haven't been outside to take any photos for days. you see, i'm a wimpy winter girl and i'm not afraid to admit it. even after our beautiful blizzard, that dumped 19.5 inches of snow on us a week ago, i haven't been out "in it." our days have been in the twenties and honestly, if the sun isn't shining and the wind is blowing, i'd rather be inside. oh sure, i've been out with the hubby to run errands and obviously to go to my sister's house for christmas, but those don't count as far as being "outside." maybe this weekend i'll put twenty three layers on and brave the elements for a few decent shots of winter. or not.

the photos in this post were all taken last sunday from the car. we were heading to milwaukee to take a family friend to the airport and i grabbed my camera for the ride. how i managed to get any photos through the dirty car windows {think salt and snow} is beyond me. let's just chalk these up to luck, shall we?

i'm assuming you all had an amazing christmas and are now anxiously waiting for the new year to arrive, no? are you a "word" chooser or a resolution maker? i've been a "word" chooser now for five years, maybe six and i'm waiting patiently for this year's word to come and bonk me on the head and scream "ME ME ME...choose ME."
too often, i look for the perfect word and i hate doing that. i'd much rather have a "word" find me {claim me, strangle me, smother me, pick me} than for me to be in charge of finding the one that seems to fit me best. so "word" i'm ready...come and get me and together let's do this !!!

  2. Oh, no! migraines are terrible and I feel so grateful not to have had one in a very long while.
I am sure your word is playing shy and will show up just in time...I've had mine for a few weeks now and every time I think of it I smile...
It must be the right one.
I love your Winter shots...and I am patiently waiting for more to come (no pressure ;-)

  3. I'm staggered to learn you took these photos through a dirty car window! They are amazing, such clarity and stillness.

I am a word chooser, or have been for a couple of years now. My word last year was nourish, and I can honestly say I think I lost connection with it through the year. I will have to choose better this time. Best wishes in finding yours for 2013! :-)

  5. I like the idea of a word, but I find making the choice and the commitment feels like pressure. At this time in my life, I rather like to flow through the days. I should've been a hippie.

  6. Beth glad your over a migraine, not really having had any, I did not know certain foods may trigger them. Your photos are beautiful...I did see the heart in the tree. I hope you get out to play soon in your twenty three layers. It was minus 32 the other night when we went for Christmas dinner. I was so bundled up I was like a polar bear. hugs.

  8. Hi! Glad you're feeling better. Luckily, I haven't had a migraine since starting that low dose prevention tablet, yay. I did, however, get the stomach flu the day after Christmas. Oh well. Here I am. We woke up to a foot of snow yesterday, and I haven't been outside YET! Is winter done now??! I choose a WORD every year, and actually was thinking last week that maybe this year, I wouldn't. But, guess what? It found me. Yep, a word tossed at me from a comment from Europe. Yep. I think there is no escaping it. (!) Bring it on.

  9. I know your word. You've said it many times in this post. Do you see it?

"ME". And I don't mean that in a selfish kind of way. I mean... maybe this is your year to find, to create to nourish... the me you are still evolving into.

Love your snow photos.. jealous, I am. We've just got the cold.

  10. I've never been a migraine sufferer thank goodness. Even just a small headache can drive me crazy. Glad you are doing better. Does the bright reflection off the snow trigger migraines for you as well or is it just food related?

    Take care.

  12. Glad the headache is gone. Yes, this winter wonderland looks like it is here to stay now here in the East too. Having decided that I am okay with being half bear and needing to hibernate, I am also okay with taking most of my winter pictures from the window looking out ! ;-)
Woking on finding the word here too... For now, it is "live" for another couple of days, which is just fine.
    Sending big love !

  13. I'm waiting for my word to rise up to meet me as well- I've had a good one this past year and its hard to find one that fills me as much as that one did. Excited to see your photos when you do venture out- can only imagine what you will come across!

  14. Beth, these photos are incredibly beautiful! Who needs to go out in 23 layers if you can get these from the car window? Sorry about your migraine--I did not know about nitrates, so thank you for that since I sometimes suffer from those debilitating headaches. Looking forward to knowing what your word will be for 2013!

  15. I love the photos, especially the one with the birds in the tree. That landscape is so NOT what I'm used to here. I've had three days of migraine-lurking-headaches this week. No fun at all. I need to pinpoint my trigger.... or triggers, as the case may be.

I think I have my word for 2013. It won't leave, so it seems to be the one. Good luck getting word-struck yourself!

  16. You make me smile.
Sorry about the migraine, but glad it was gone on Christmas morning. I think I would have to go out for one snow angel, but I bet it is beautiful just watching from your window. OK, I hope that word just jumps out soon and grabs you in a hug.
