i was asked what my answer was to my own question and now with some thought
i think i'd have to answer "learn"
this past fall/early winter i took a class at our technical collage and i have to say, as scary as it was to be going "back to school" i loved it. i loved learning something new.
so yes, more learning in 2012 would be a gift
another gift at the moment is our incredibly mild winter.
40's and even 50's have been throwing themselves at us and nobody {well maybe the snowboarders and snowplow drivers} is complaining.

I love to learn...plan to do some in February!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the sparkle on this last photograph...is it bubbles on the water or a light reflection? Whatever -- my eye was drawn to that immediately.
Ah yes to the mild winter. We've got it going on here as well and I do love it. But I agree..those who love to ski or snowboard are having a hard time finding anywhere to indulge and I do truly feel for those people who run a business of snow removal...business so far this year has been non-existent. What we see as a blessing can be a crisis for others.
One of my unwritten resolutions each year is to learn something new...I try to remember that every day of the year:) I would love to learn how you processed these! Love the color tone...is it an action?
ReplyDeleteMy goal (not a resolution) is to take more time to practice with my camera. It has been frustrating to not know by heart where every setting is. I don't always have reading glasses with me and I just want to be able to operate it with confidence.
ReplyDeleteWe too have had such a mild with no rain winter so far. Great for being outdoors but we do need the rain.
Here in Mumbai, the weather has been pleasant, even cool, on occasion. The village where I am staying has quite a bit of dust. I understand temperatures are quite a bit colder in Jaipur and Delhi where I will be heading next for a week or so. I'll always return back here between forays elsewhere...this is my Indian 'home" an "family"
ReplyDeleteLove your photos. I think it was worth it for you to get out of your comfort zone to learn. Keep going. I was 48 when I started a 60 hour graduate program in painting. Scared to death I did one of the most rewarding things of my life. You have such a gift of photography and prose. xo Jenny
ReplyDeletewere you taking a night class? let me you know if you plan on more, so we can attempt to cross paths!
ReplyDeletethese shots are precious! i love the birdy composition.
as for your sentence, I'm gonna go with "educate myself" since that's the path i'm on already. ;o)
Great answer- glad you took the time to share with us :) I am officially dubbing this the un-winter :) Although, the winds are shifting and its expected to be more winterish soon- shiver :)
ReplyDeleteYou cant go wrong with learning...especially if you are excited about it...
ReplyDeleteLOVE your images here but then again...dont I always :=)
I love the muted browns and greys in these photographs. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove these sepia studies, esp the 2nd.
ReplyDeleteWe had a weekend so incredibly out of character for January with beautiful sunny skies and warm temps but today is ffffffreeeeeezing. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteThe weather pattern has been so strange lately. My mother and I have been running the A/C all day here in Baton Rouge! Well, that's not highly unusual, but it seems it should be colder for January, even in the south. Love your silhouette photos!!
ReplyDeleteWinter? What winter? Love that last photo....just beautiful!
ReplyDeletesame here, my husband is still golfing (which is good for both of us). the birds are loving it.
ReplyDeleteand i love these photos :)
In the 50's in Badger country? Crazy. What will you take for a class?
ReplyDeleteGood for you Beth. I'm glad to hear you are taking a class...how fun.
ReplyDeleteEven here in northern wi, we too had warm temps. I'll be sad when Thursday rolls around when the temps drop and the stiff winds blow.
Happy Monday to you! I love learning, too, but I'm behind and have no idea what your last post was about! Off to see...
ReplyDeleteI would stay in school - as a student - every day if I could. I have a new camera that I need to "learn" this year.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your photos make me want to get out and walk in the woods.
Learn is a good word, Beth. xo jj
ReplyDeleteBeth I wanted to just get lost in
ReplyDeleteyour photos. Beautiful.
Your photos are so beautiful Beth, love that you took a class and that you enjoy learning new things. hugs.
ReplyDeleteTwo weeks ago we got 24 inches of snow...I complained for sure!!
ReplyDeleteNow it is 40's and I am happy as a clam!
Loving it
Hugs
SueAnn
What gorgeous winter light!! And - yes - learning is always such a gift!
ReplyDeleteyour little creatures are enchanting me... love those feathers ruffled by the breeze (not to mention your talented capture.)
ReplyDeleteBeth,
ReplyDeleteYour images are lovely (as always)...
And yes...the mild winter so far has been glorious...
but...it is freaking me out a bit out here in the west...
there is NO snow on the mountains...the ski resorts have only a couple of lifts open and that is because they are being blown with man made snow...Now...I am not a skier...but I do know the snow pack in the Seirra's is how the west gets their water and if we don't get LOTS OF SNOW....SOON...it will be a disaster! So...if not there...pray we get some here!
I am so enjoying this wonderfully mild weather. I just hope there is not huge surprise awaiting us like tons and tons of snowfall!
ReplyDeleteyep, my same word. Listen. Educate. Ask. Remember. New.
ReplyDeleteLEARN is a great word for all ages!
ReplyDeleteLovely lovely shots.

betty xx
hello to you!
ReplyDeletethese photos are such a gift.
they invite me into a place of contemplative peace. thank you. x.
Nice photos. It is amazing to go back to school when you are older and learn. I love it. Now just a warning, but I think your weather might change next week. Smiling! So get out there and enjoy the mild winter, as I see you are doing.
ReplyDeleteThe black and white look of these, or monochromatic -- great!
