only spinach for now....

it's not really a health kick i'm on, but i am trying some new things. i've been adding spinach to my fruit smoothies and loving the fact that i know the spinach is there, yet i can't see it or taste it. for those of you who drink the truly green smoothies, i'm impressed.
i'm not there yet, but might be someday. for me, a smoothie has to taste good and look good, without chunks getting caught in my straw, or there's no way i'm drinking it.
~
here are some of the many ingredients i use in my smoothies. any mixture of the items below will work. the number one thing is to make sure you use frozen fruit instead of ice. a real smoothie to me, does not have ice in it. and did you know, you can freeze bananas.
~
yogurt {honey almond from target is my favorite}
 milk {just a tiny bit if you need more liquid}
juice {i like the v-8 100% juice blends}
any fresh fruit {i love the dole snack packs in their own juice when you're in a hurry}
any frozen fruit {frozen blueberries cover up the vulgar color of pulverized spinach}
spinach {or any vegetable that you can pulverize}
~
blend away and enjoy
and
remember
if you have littles at home or even if you don't
leftover smoothies can be frozen in little cups and made into popsicles
~
do you add something special to your smoothies you think i might like
please share
*
oh
and
the asparagus above will never be found in a smoothie of mine
ever
~
grilled and devoured
yes
but never in my smoothie

  3. No dairy for me in my smoothies, but I do love spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, or even beet greens. I offset the "savory" with fruits like kiwis, mangoes, blueberries, strawberries - and always a lemon or two. I'm with you on the asparagus - it's so good grilled, why waste it in a smoothie.

  4. Such a yummy recipe. I can't wait to try it. Have you ever tasted asparagus wrapped in Prosciutto (Italian cured Ham) held by a toothpick and slightly grilled?

  5. I don't usually make smoothies, but love fruit ones. Happy to hear you don't put asparagus in your smoothie. In Thailand it was mango smoothies, they were most refreshing as often as I could find them. Even the Sizzler had them, but with ice. Love frozen bananas dipped in chocolate and crushed peanuts. Oh now you have me thinking.

  7. Our neighbors are into those green smoothie things. BLAH!!! Although, I did try some of another semi-green one and it wasn't half bad. As for asparagus and spinach ~ I could eat them until my stomach ached!!! YUM YUM YUM !!!!!! Except for the way asparagus makes your pee smell. I'm sorry but I had to say it. : )

    What a great idea to slip some spinach in there! I keep intending to start making smoothies, but I hate the idea of cleaning the blender. :)

  10. Yay for smoothies! We have them alot of mornings, mostly go by what's in the kitchen ... always yogurt and frozen fruit, a splash of soy milk and o.j.. a squeeze of honey, banana, pineapple, berries. Haven't tried anything green yet, I know I need to but will really have to hide it!

  16. Yummy - it's so hot here in Denver - I could go for one of those. (However, no frozen fruit at my house right now.) Try using almond milk sometime (I like vanilla unsweetened - 40 calories a cup - also good on cereal)

  19. Your smoothies sound delish. My health kick for the last year has been to add more veggies and fruits to my diet. Lost 37 lbs! I'm too lazy to do smoothies, though.

    Can you believe I have NEVER made a smoothie! Yep! Too many berries get thrown away in our house due from not eating them fast enough. Why in the world have I never thought to drink them?? Thanks for the idea!

    And once again...I get a real word for the word verification and it goes along with this post "agings"!

  28. i've been trying to drink smoothies lately - just another attempt to get some fruit and veg into my sadly lacking diet. the challenge for me is to make them without too much fiber. but someone recently suggested the spinach, and i've been thinking of trying it. how much do you use?

    i've been trying 1/2 box of coconut water with a vanilla yogurt and 1/2 banana, some cinnamon, and 1/2 scoop of protein powder. i do use ice, as the coconut water makes the liquid rather thin. but it adds a tremendous amount of potassium, which i need!

  29. Roasted or grilled asparagus..my very favorite.

    I can't handle green smoothies, either. A little green is fine, but hats off to those who do true greens.

  32. yummmm...we make smoothies with yogurt or cottage cheese (more protein)papaya,banana,strawberries, blueberries,almond milk and ice cubes. Occasionally add some protein powder and agave syrup. The asparagus is beautiful. and by the way, I am making Spinach Artichoke Hummus today! and Roasted Red Pepper, and Cilantro Lime and Sundried Tomato Basil.~ HUNGRY?~
