be still my heart...

did you know i love birds
and
that when spring arrives
and
they dance and sing
outside my bedroom window at the crack of dawn
waking me from a really deep sleep
i don't even care
~~
and
that when they fill the tree outside my studio window
eating mushy berries
while winking at me
watching to see if i'm quick enough
to get my camera focused
on them before they fly off again
~while i curse at the window screens for being in my way~
i love them even more
~~
now
who knows who this little guy is
~~
look at his adorable mask he's wearing
like he's some kind of bank robber
and
that brilliant yellow
on the tip of his tail
like he just stuck it in a can of paint
~~
swoon
*
our bird book is out at the cottage and i figured kate will know what species this is before i can even search it on google
oh
and
his tummy is more yellow than what the picture shows
and
the other yellow
in the background
are his buddies waiting patiently
for this character to get done with his photo shoot
~~
do you have any idea what i had to bribe him with to sit still
while holding a berry in mouth for me
lol

  11. someone beat me to it - cedar waxwing, in the yellow-bellied sap sucker family. I have only seen one in my life flying. Holy Cow! I said, it's a cedar waxwing. Lucky you!

  14. Beautiful, the birds at my feeder are to smart for me...as soon as I slowly place my finger over the button to take the photo they look at me then fly off. I have even sat still with no motion for 10 to 15 min. waiting for them to come to the feeder and they never come. Soon as I put my camera down...they appear. :)

  15. I am so jealous, we have almost every other pretty bird in our yard, but only once or twice has a cedar waxwing come to visit...I have planted more berries in a lame attempt to lure them in...what a great shot! what did you bribe him with?

  25. how you capture and storytell for us, is nothing short of brilliant...

male birds can really knock us out with their charm and good looks...and i am a sucker for them too
(not the yellow-bellied sap sucker variety, just a giddy, floppy, glowing-heart kind of sucker) /:>

  30. what a gorgeous photograph- I love birds too. I have set a bird feeder outside my dining window- they are so fun to watch although I need to move it a little farther from my window- we had a casualty :(

  31. Cedar waxwings don't usually sit around posing...great capture!...they do usually travel in flocks...did you have a tree full of them?

    ReplyDelete
  32. That is indeed a cutie and your comment about dipping his tail in paint was adorable.
Bird watching can sometimes be so relaxing.

  33. Love this, Beth. I am also trying to capture birds, and most of the time I get them at the exact wrong mili-second that would have made a great shot.

The nest on my header was easy, on my deck last spring in a dogwood, low branch. It just kinda sat there for me with great patience... lol...

  37. Oh , Beth. Girl after my own heart.
I tried so hard on vacation to be a bird and butterfly paparazzi. With no idea how to use camera settings, but lots of admiration.
I got a few shots, but this, this is incredible.

Isn't spring infectious in it's unfurling?
