I love
peeling paint
broken windows
caved in roofs
ladders with missing rungs
cracked pottery
empty brick silos
paths worn into the earth
windmills with missing paddles
dead trees
pitted glass bottles
cracked slate chalk boards
and
sepia photos
but
I love new
too
~~
just not as much

I'm with you. There's something so very special about the fabric and texture of 'old'!! Love the image!!
ReplyDeleteI am new to taking pictures and playing around with photoshop.Since I started,my love for the old has awakened in the images I take.Perhaps its the history of it all.
ReplyDeleteWonderful image and Post!!!
Warmest Regards,Cat
the old has what the new doesn't yet... an aura...
ReplyDeleteFirst, I've been meaning to tell you how much I like the name of your blog. So simple, yet very thought provoking, and humorous.
ReplyDeleteI like your photos and words, too.
I like old buildings and other old things in situ. I like to think that someone put it there or built it or lived there. I wonder at the history, usually personal, that is holds.
Thanks,
Greg
I just decided I want a brand new house that looks old but has new plumbing, etc. Then I would decorate with new furniture and old accents!!!
ReplyDeleteThe old is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteso with you on this!
ReplyDeletekt
"Old" seems to have a story behind it, doesn't it? Personally in the "new" I like computers (moved onto a refurbished Mac now!), ideas and fresh bread. Have a great unravelling kind of day!
ReplyDeleteold is always interesting. always.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your photos, Beth. this one? sigh ... oh double triple quadruple sigh ...
ReplyDeleteMe too. I always wonder what secrets are behind the old walls.
ReplyDeleteI used to love new until I married an Englishman and he showed me the wonder and awe of old. I much prefer it now.
ReplyDeleteyes i love it...were we at the same place?! if I see you you know I would give you the biggest hug!
ReplyDeleteDelightful little post. Just the thing I needed after sitting down with a fresh cup of coffee and getting ready to work...
ReplyDeleteIt always makes you wonder, doesn't it? Who loved it? Who left it behind? Why? Where did they go?
ReplyDeleteno wonder we're such good friends. :)
ReplyDeletei love old too
i like a mix-old and new-comfort and fresh
ReplyDeleteI seem to treasure both as well. I have a newer house filled with my mother's and grandmother's old furniture and trinkets :) I can't say which I prefer over the other however... Beautiful photo...
ReplyDeleteAs always, you say it better and more beautifully than anyone I know!
ReplyDeleteold has character ... character has story
ReplyDeleteMe too...there is a story to be told with "old". Beautiful capture here...

Me too!...and I love my wrinkles too...sort of:)

Sometimes I will drive past an old deserted shack in the country, all overgrown with vines and weeds. I will say to myself, I could live there. Hide away and make a secret cottage just for me. Your picture reminds me of just that.
ReplyDeleteold is always better!
ReplyDeleteI've missed some great posts of yours...I loooove the little hat on the running away boy...and I have to let my boys read your post about fragrances....they go through Axe Body spray like they have stocks in it (maybe I should!)
ReplyDeleteI like how artistic old can look..when the right person is behind the camera, and by that I mean you!
I especially like old barns! And I love visiting my friends who have incorporated the old and the new in their decorating - they come together so beautifully in the right hands.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words and photo - as always.
ReplyDeleteOh Beth you do have the most stunning pictures captured with a great eye. Still love your old red barn in my hall.
ReplyDeleteOh the stories that could be told when you look at something old! I love your photography!
