do you ever wonder about the names of the blogs you read
?
well today is the day
that many of us will be answering that question for you
~~
when I first started this blog
~more doors~
represented all the moves that I had made
and
all the homes I had lived in
over the past 25 years
~~
it represented my past
and
lit a path for my future
and
it still does both of those things
perfectly
~~
but
then one day
I came across the quote
~be yourself...everyone else is taken~
and
I was like a teenager falling in love all over again
~~
I guess it was due to the fact that for years I had been trying to figure out who I was
based on what others thought of me
while
secretly wishing that I was more like anyone else besides myself
and
the fact
that I had dressed or acted like girls or women I knew
in hopes of winning the approval of others
and
liking myself better
~~
so as a reminder to myself
and
hopefully to many of you
~be yourself~
seemed to be the perfect way for me to start each and everyday
~~
and
it is
~~
especially on those days when you wake up questioning
who it is that's actually looking back at you in the mirror
while you wipe the sleep out of your eyes
again
and
you're still not convinced
that she's the person you want to spend the rest of the day with
~~
just remember she is
and
she's perfect just the way she is
*
many of you asked about seeing the new blog banner
that I would be making for vicky
well
*
Thanks for the reminder that we are uniquely and wonderfully made ... and for the door ...
ReplyDeleteMy younger self can so identify with with your younger self. Don't you prefer being at an age where you're comfortable in your own skin? It's loverly!
ReplyDeleteWonderful words... her banner is amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh, I sooooo relate to this, thank you for expressing it so well. Now in my forties.. I am JUST starting to live as just me... not trying to be what others think I should be or look how others look. Just.. me, whether that pleases.. or not. It's liberating!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate how much intention and thought you live with. I do feel like I've grown into myself in my forties and no longer care about being anyone other than me.
ReplyDeleteAnd you have certainly opened a "door" for many of us in more ways than you could know!
I got the nicest email from a friend about my new header... she said "Wow, Beth really "got" you." So true.
encouraging words..blog names are interesting I think! LOVE the door
ReplyDeleteI loved the name of your Doors blog and was bummed (kinda) with your new name. Except, like you, I fell in love with the new name. And yeah, I get it!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletexoxo
can you just make your banner into a poster already it is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeletekt
wow. that's a beautiful banner!!!
ReplyDeleteand your blog name description suits this space perfectly.
Beautiful banner, and a beautiful reminder to hold true who we are! How much more peaceful and joyful life is when we can just let ourselves be who we are meant to me...ahhh!
ReplyDeleteGood reminder... I some times wake up and look at myself and think, crap, did I take a shower today:)
ReplyDeleteYour fight like a girl post was so cute... priceless self portrait.
I look at the mirror everyday and wonder.
ReplyDeletebeautiful story though - i've always loved that quote.
mine came about because i was always ramblin' on about stuff. i wanted to change it..but then, i thought, why? :)
Sadly, when I read the line about looking back at me from the mirror, I realize I go days....literally days without really looking at myself.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am so tired of wishing I was different and always a tad disappointed that I walk around averting me eyes...
Now I'll have to think about that.
That's really cool! And what wonderful words to live by! Everyone else IS taken! Thanks for playing!
ReplyDeleteBeth your story is so true, I could have been that girl. But during the years I've learned so much. And yes, be yourself, everyone else is taken. Thanks for being so open about it because still even if I found myself and my strenght my trough me I have days I'll sink back into this feeling. So it's good to know I'm not alone her. Love your new banner and Vicky's too.
ReplyDeleteYep...totally get that! That's why I went a created a new blog ;) BTW... I love the header you created...beautiful!
ReplyDeletethank you for the reminder...lots of love!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of sharing how you
ReplyDeletecame up with the name to your blog!
Thanks for reminding us to not be
so hard on the gal staring back at
us in the mirror. ;o)
love the header! I like your blog name and how you came to have it. I never really but a lot of thought into it now I wish I had. Mine is so boring and unoriginal.
ReplyDeleteThe door photo is fabulous! Your really captured it's essence. And the new blog header is divine!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood words to live by and I try to do that each and every day. Sometimes it is hard to like yourself as you are...but if you don't...who will?!!
Hugs
SueAnn
A beautiful post Beth. It took me years to move into a place where I was OK about who I was. Years and years in fact! Thanks for your wise words.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I had ever heard that quote was when I saw it on your banner and whispered it to myself with a smile...I fell in love with it too.
ReplyDeleteIt is the perfect name for a blog belonging to someone as beautifully authentic as You.
much love xo
Love the new blog banner for Vicky.
ReplyDeleteI also love reading your explanation of your blog title. I know when I thought about blogging I wanted it to be only positive things, since it is so easy to focus on the negatives. Thus came my title of Delights of the Heart.
I really love the new banners, they are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOnce again I'm noticing how well you know yourself and it's inspiring. Because you're right, there is no one else for us to be but ourselves and why on earth wouldn't we want to be just that?
I really like the idea of explaining our blog titles so I'm playing along, too.
A good reminder that no matter how many doors we go through, or hide behind, they don't change us, we are always ourselves.
ReplyDeleteOscar Wilde wrote something similiar and I've always loved it. That and he lived a rather extraordinary & unconventional life to boot. :)
ReplyDeletep.s. the banner you did for your friend, Vicki, is so pretty. Love the texture and aging you added.
I love this post idea. And your blog story. Gotta run. I want to play along.
ReplyDeleteFantastic post and I love your door! Thank you for your comment on my post today at SS!! =)
ReplyDeleteAlways great to know more about what's behind the 'art' (or title of the blog) that we're looking at.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful banner!
I loved the sentiments you have expressed here. The idea of walking through a door and being comfortable in your own shoes is great. I think the world is slowly becoming less judgemental of others. This is a beautiful blog, so artistic. Thank you for sharing your title ideas. They are so inspirational!
ReplyDeleteand I am happy that you are YOU!!! Love the new banner btw
ReplyDeleteI think we can all relate to what you said in this wonderful post. How many times have we looked in the mirror and wondered who we really were when we were younger. The older I have grown, the more I appreciate who God made me to be. Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteBeth - your growing up years sound so familiar...did a lot of that flip-flopping, trying to figure out things. your funny, poignant and unique perspective is ideally perfect for nudging us to our own truth...pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine you being anyone other than who you are! YOU are Beth... one of my favorite bloggers!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see this post until today, so I'm playing catch-up and will post my own blog-name post.
By the way, I love the blog header you gave away....
I love that quote. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of an idea they taught us in art school...
You can never be better than second best at copying somebody else. But you are the champion you.
