me...trespassing~him...bullheaded

my love for old and abandoned
grows daily
and
this past weekend filled me up again
~~
while out shooting this weekend
avoiding areas where dots of orange were also shooting
~darn hunters~
we came across this
~~
stone walls
~that once made a home~
still standing
still beautiful
still determined to survive
even though
the love and the laughter are gone
it now stands tall at the end of a working farm
~~
and
what appeared to be a house
was also next to it
~
abandoned
~we think~
we were going to knock on the front door and ask if we could take photos
but
we couldn't figure out what boarded up area could possibly be an entrance
to the dilapidated house
~even though the mailbox in front looked brand new~
~~
so we took our chances
me with my zoom lens
and
my hubby behind the wheel of our get-away car
just in case
~~
the only one bothered by our presence
was
the bull above
who refused to move
and
who forced me to play a game of
"who's going to blink first"
~~
he won
~~
and
yes
I'll be going back
once I talk to some of the homeowners down the road
to learn a bit more about
the love that once lived here
*
wouldn't senior and family photos be fabulous here
?

  1. Love the abandoned structure. I too think about who lived there...the dreams and the sorrows that flowed through those walls?? It will be interesting to hear more about it. Beautiful photograph!

  3. I, too, am awed by things from days gone by.. I imagine the lives within the walls, the people who met under the big old trees, what secrets those walls contained... who touched the stones as they were placed in the wall... looking forward to that abandoned home photography.

  10. Grand old place/ruin. I like to imagine who might have polished its long ago windows, swept its floors and what hopes and dreams were contained within its walls. Your pictures tell a wistful story. Looking forward to the follow up!

  12. I agree with Connie. And, you know, stone walls like that suggest that the people had a sense of permanence and were relatively 'well-to-do' so you do have to wonder, what happened to them...where did they go?

Your images give us fodder for our imagination as we ask more and more questions and wonder, what if and why....

  13. It is an interesting spot. I would be imagining who lived there, etc. Actually, if you poked around in the dirt, you might even find some remnants of home life and that would be interesting!

  15. Yes, senior and family photos would be fabulous here. I love places like that and to dream about what lives took place there.

There is a place like this in Kansas that I fell in love with. If I ever get back there I plan on taking many pictures.

  16. Beth, I too think you find the most fabulous places...and yes you make us think about it, so today while I am cleaning I will have this vision in my head, and take me to another place until the cleaning is over.

  18. Don't old buildings like that just make you wonder about the lives and family who lived there. Screams substance to me.

  19. I probably would've taunted him a little bit more... the bull, not your husband.. to the point he would've charged @ me (again the bull, not your husband).

  24. This is GREAT! I love the abandoned buildings. Once my husband and I came across one near a development where friends lived outside of Memphis. We found old letters under a floorboard. What a treasure trove!

  26. Yes! I could see both seniors and families having a cool "setting" for their pics. If those crumpled walls could only talk...

The best part of the photo to me though... are the highlights made by the sun on the cows rear end... he definitely is the star of the show with that attitude!

  28. This is a lovely scene, and surprising to me. In Western Canada where I grew up there is very little in the way of history beyond a hundred years ago. I tend to think of most of N. America as being young. In the part of France where I live most of the time, there are ancient ruins almost wherever you go, and your photo looks just right to be some of those.

    Lovely post, as usual, Beth.

  29. what a superb find!
those massive stone walls, buttery and crumbling ... take me right to the old country where things were built to last ...
and a Holstein standing, staring...is like right out of a Van Gogh painting
you can't make this stuff up

  32. What an incredible place to stumble upon!
I am sitting here daydreaming about all the marvelous things I could capture if only I had an accomplice of my very own, willing to drive the get away car. Oh, the possibilities.
    You lucky bug.
