I'm in the kitchen today...and if you know me very well, this is not where I like to spend my time

it's almost thanksgiving
and
I'm mostly looking forward to the stuffing
~~
actually
I'm hoping that the dessert that I'm making today
~since it has to be refrigerated overnight~
that
required 4 different grocery store visits to find all the ingredients
is
the most
amazing gingerbread pumpkin anything
I have ever eaten
in my entire life
~~
seriously
how can grocery stores
3 days before thanksgiving
not have
pumpkin pie filling
~~
anyhow
are you baking and cooking today
~in between blog reading~
~~
me too

  3. I am making a pie today as well. My darling daughter (she's 6) and I are going to attempt a pie from scratch! We have the pumpkin on the counter ready to cook and puree. I am using Amish roll butter for the flaky crust.

Good luck to the both of us! and Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. My entire family will be at my house tomorrow, so I'm up early sipping coffee and reading blogs. I have to clean and decorate. Thankfully I am only making 2 items for our meal. Everyone is bringing something. Even though I cook often, I don't know that I could do a huge holiday meal! Gives me the shakes just thinking about it. LOL
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  14. So you haven't heard about the great pumpkin shortage ? What about the Eggo waffle shortage ? (Maybe more up your non-cooking alley ?) Where have you been ? Taking pictures rocks ? ;)

No baking for me this year. It hardly feels like Thanksgiving at all. We are going to the father-in-laws and I will be going over early to stuff the bird in his oven tomorrow morning. We ordered a big 50th birthday cake for Dave's brother from a great local bakery and so all I need to bring is the ice cream. I think I will go out and shoot some photos instead....maybe of rocks...;)
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy the Thanks Giving gifts !
    Big Love !

  15. Oh, I love being in the kitchen! Were that I not so far away, I'd come help you, Beth. I read somewhere not long ago there is actually a pumpkin shortage. I laughed too...LOL! But it's true, there's a shortage of canned pumpkin due to last year's pumpkin crops being bad. I hope you get some pie in time. If you need a lift and cheer, I'm hosting a sweet gift giveaway to celebrate Thanksgiving week--stop by. Wishing you & yours a very blessed holiday! ((HUGS))

  18. You are correct --- the kitchen calls -- in between blog reading! So, if the gingerbread pumpkin anything is wonderful -- we want the recipe!

  19. I got a ten minute discussion on the pumpkin shortage from the guy at Whole Foods. He was very nice and expceptionally helpful, giving all that was going on.

I am also making pie, but find piecrust to be the most difficult thing to put together. I can cook a five course meal with ease, why does the pie crust always hang me up!

Here's hoping there is no shortage of frozen pie crusts!

    Happy cooking and happy thanksgiving!

  20. sounds good! The picture is beautiful...
    Have a great Thanksgiving!

  21. Good luck in the kitchen Beth, I am sure everything will turn out awesome. happy holidays.

  22. Yes, cooking that is where I should be. I had to chuckle Marion's comment above about the pie crust being difficult. That is the part I like the most, forget the rest of the meal - let me make pies. I did hear there was a shortage of canned pumpkin this year. Isn't that amazing? Who would have guessed.

Enjoy your day in the kitchen. I plan on turning the music up and dancing in the kitchen.

  23. Beautiful photo!!! I am not doing all the cooking this year. Heading off to son's house and bringing the 26 lb. turkey and pumpkins pies (bought at Costco)!! Oh and the whipped topping too! Looking forward to it.
Hope your dessert is stupendous; giving all the time it is taking you.
    Have a glorious Thanksgiving
    Hugs

  24. Beth, you crack me up. That photo says it all! We are driving a few hours away tomorrow to visit my relatives (especially my dear grandparents), so I kinda got out of any major food prep. But I feel so exactly the same way about the kitchen right now! Cooking is not my creative outlet. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!!

  25. Beth, wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving together!!!
I'm just out of the kitchen ... the mashed potato casserole and the squash casserole are done - my contribution to dinner tomorrow at my daughters. Here's to full stomachs and full hearts!

  28. Love the picture! I'll be visiting the in-laws tomorrow, and although I was supposed to visit and learn, again, how to make her dressing, I've got to take my car to the shop.... Hmmm.... Bad, huh?

Enjoy your time in the kitchen!

  29. Hope it all turns out magical.

I'm doing my baking tomorrow morning. We don't leave until 1 for dinner. Am trying a new recipe from Williams Sonoma that involves brussels sprouts (love them).

  30. Yep...doing the same! It is pumpkin apple butter pie and lemon ice box pie, and water gate salad, and, and, and ,and..........just to name a few things from the kitchen! I had read on another blog that there is a shortage of pumpkin pie filling...
I laughed at your 4 visits to the store....same here!

    Happy holidays to you also!

  43. Oh yea Beth, our spiritual photographic souls were having fun at the same level again. If only you could be outside instead of filling the dinner table.
