I look for them all the time
those abandoned doors and windows
held together by walls that once had a voice
~~
but
sometimes I like to think that they find me
~~
this one was loved
I can tell
because
it's the shade of pink that your cheeks become
after a long walk in the dried fields
while
hand in hand
with your lover
~~
not pink
because the sun has soaked the typical and always blaring red right out of it
but pink
because somebody cared
~~
it is still on a lived in property
at the bottom of a hill where the grass is calf high
near a slight bend in the road
and
where I'm guessing
laughter fills the main house during the day
and
the lights come on at night
~~
my sister has passed this
"there must be a story here"
building
many times
as it's on the way to her friends house
yet
she's never really given it any thought
~~
yesterday was my first time to see it
and
I was instantly drawn to it
the way I always am with these left behind buildings
the sun
was warm and understanding
while
it painted with long brushstrokes
~what I want to believe was a guest house or a child's playhouse~
simple
weak layers of white
that cast ghostly like shadows
~~
someday I'll go back
when I can spend a little more time
and
see if it has anything to tell me

take me along when you go. i'd love to explore that house

ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. If the walls could talk, I wonder what they would say. Your writing always amazes me.
ReplyDeleteI also am intrigued by "left behind buildings". The stories they could tell, but keep tightly tucked within the walls. Thanks for sharing this beauty and thoughts with us today.
ReplyDeleteI love how you see the beauty in these old places, and we are so lucky to see through your eyes. Your words are always so fitting as well. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous house. We have several in my area that you know were such wonderful homes in their day. It's so sad to see them vacant, isn't it? The walls must hold so many memories. Thanks for this lovely post. Your pictures and your words are always incredible. :)

ReplyDeletebut your photos let us peer in, give a glimpse of her heyday and nudge us to give her another look and listen...
Have I told you yet how much I love your abandoned home images. And a pink one. Oh, you do know how to turn a girl's head.
ReplyDeleteLove the play between lights and shadows against the backdrop of the building. Sweet shot.
ReplyDeleteThis house looks like it could tell a thousand stories. Don't you wish the walls could talk? Although, maybe these pink walls really are whispering to you because they know you will listen.
