a new day....

into the light
today is friday
and
"I think I'm going to make it"
~~
for those of you who suffer from migraines
I know that you have also said those same words
~~
I get them often enough and can control them with medication and acupuncture
but
the one that hit me on wednesday literally knocked me off my feet for hours and hours
it was one of "those"
where nothing I ate or drank stayed with me
including my medication
~~
it was one of "those"
where I wanted to remove my head and ship it to a faraway country with hopes of it getting lost in the mail
~~
it was one of "those"
where the sounds of the television actually drowned out the pounding in my head
but when the phone rang
it was like being stabbed with a steak knife
~~
it was one of "those"
where I felt that if the plier like grip tightening in on my temples
got any stronger
that my head would literally turn to mush like a grape that's been stepped on
~~
it was one of "those"
where I sat in my closet in order to get away from the light pouring in from the windows
after tying a dishtowel around my head and over my eyes wasn't enough
~~
yesterday was better
better in the sense that I walked on eggshells
waiting to see if a rebound headache
would dummy punch when I wasn't looking
~~
but it didn't
because I ate prescription medicine for breakfast and lunch
which is not my idea of a balanced diet
and
it pisses me off knowing that sometimes I have to do that
~~
so if any of you saw cindy mccain recently on the news talking about migraines
and
the need to spend more money on research for a cure
due to the number of "lost work days"
well
she speaks the truth
from living with migraines herself
and
I think I like her
~~

  1. Very sorry you were feeling so bad! Indeed, it's very sad that there isn't more money and time spent on finding cures for illnesses. Hope you have a wonderful ~ migraine free ~ weekend!

  2. I think you summed up the experience very painfully well. I woke up to a dull throb in my head, but this headache is not a migraine and possibly due to a big weather system coming through.

Heres to happier and less head in a vice grip days!

  3. I hope your migraine has passed. I have never suffered from one so I can only sympathize with you. They must be horrid things to suffer when they know you about and make it unbearable to function.

  10. I get 'one of those' much more rarely now, but I used to get one every month, just as my period started. nice, talk about a double whammy. I'm with you, too, on the rebound headache -- migraine hangover ... ACK! Glad it's receding and you're comin' round, Baby! Go Cindy! Go research!

  11. I'm sorry lovely... I get the evil all the time. I have found that the melt on your tongue medication works the best... you can't expel it. I'm sure you've been given a boatload of advice... but if you'd like the info (I'm no doctor, just been a sufferer for 15 years) email me.

In the mean time... many positive thoughts are headed to you

  12. Beautiful picture.
I am sorry you get migraines like that....I think it would be a scary experience. I'm like Toni, get headaches once a month before my period, but nothing that a few tylenols doesn't take away. I guess the only thing that would help would be the knowledge that in a few days it will be gone again.

  18. Ouch! This reads horrible! I never get headaches but I can imagine the ferocity. I have a childhood friend that suffers from migraines several times a month and misses work frequently, as a result. Light and sound floors her. I'm so sorry you experiance this! I hope you feel better over the weekend.
    p.s. that photograph is beautiful.

  22. Thanks for the comment on my blog, so nice to meet you. I am a migraine sufferer also and I call the "day after" a "post-migraine hang over" day where the lingering headache would knock most people out but compared to the doozy the day before it's nothing. I hope you are feeling better now.

  24. i'm sorry you had such a rough time with your migraine. i've had a few of those myself so i know what you're saying. but, i get mine because a man hit my nose and broke it. after watching john, my husband, get his broken nose fixed i haven't been brave enough to try it. here's hoping you won't experience to many more in the coming weeks/ months.
