~~~~~
the summer's sun
and affection
and the dreams it brought
me
along with the occasional surprise
~~~~~
the wishes it produced
along with the smiles
and tanned legs
and
overall
giddiness
~~~~~
the warmth
it gave
while letting me feel
that anything is possible
~~~~~
like a nurturing blanket
that
wrapped around me
and
made me feel loved
~~~~~
the summer sun
is special
and can't be replaced
and
yes
I'm already whining about it
~~~~~
no matter how hard I try
to appreciate the cold
and
the
snow
that
is
coming
my heart's just not in it
~~~~~
instead
my heart is still filled
with
that fabulous summer sun
with memories
of what was
or
could have been
and
I
continue
to hold onto
hope
I really like this reflection on summer. It makes me feel more kindly to her. Summer is not my time. Fall is. Summer brings its own pleasures, of course. But, I prefer the long dark and the cozy comforts of home and hearth.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it seem like the summer was a moment not a season this year? I love winter but wasn't ready to give up picking my own tomatoes, drying clothes on the line and lying on my back watching the clouds.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the light of Phoenix, but the scalding summer sun? not so much. I would give a lot to experience true seasonal transitions again: summer to fall, fall to winter, winter to spring. Not sure I could handle a full-on winter anymore, after 30 years in Phoenix! I shiver when it gets below 65 - ridiculous, huh? But at least I could fulfill my dream of wearing (& needing) one of those gorgeous white fishermen's sweaters. I love the way you've written about your love for summer, though.
ReplyDeleteHad to stop in and say howdy to my girl! I loved the video, the new photos, your poetry, and yes, the onset of winter wonderland. Thanks for giving us a great view! Nice new banner too!
ReplyDeletejust think of all that beautiful winter photography you /we have to look forward too!
