a bit dumbstruck

i'm guessing this is how i must have looked the first time i stood and watched the ocean...a bit dumbstruck. i don't remember that first time, but i wish i did. i'll have to ask my mom, but i think it must have been our family's road trip to florida when i was thirteen, maybe fourteen and we stopped at daytona beach. i wonder if she remembers the look on my face. i have to believe it was one of awe. even today, after being lucky enough to see many, many coasts, i'm still in a state of awe when the ocean comes up to me and says hello.

yes, that's his hat…and coat. snort.

thanks to all my jumpers.
i adore you for being so much fun.

  1. Love seeing your jumping pictures… we tried one this summer and I had to laugh. In order from left to right, I never left the ground even and the boys got higher and higher and then Rick was huge off the ground… it looked hilarious :) So glad to see you at the beach and hope the rays are plentiful and strong!!

  2. Love your thoughts on seeing the ocean for the first time. It is awe inspiring. One of the first times I can remember I was probably 7 or 8 and we went to the beach in San Francisco for a family picnic. My grandmother was dress in old lady black shoes and even a hat and a suit. I can remember her on the sand scolding her grandchildren for getting too close to the waves and a wave came sneaking up on her and just soaked her. It was the funniest thing, I will never forget.

I just love your jumping pictures at the beach. Nice Seaside Retreat too.

  4. Always love your jumpers...I grew up 40 minutes from the ocean so I don't remember the first time I saw the water but I do remember having lots of good and bad experiences near the ocean....Once you get sand in your toes, you're hooked....Enjoy your time....

  5. A dog dozing or looking upward at the sun with that squinty contented look is so wonderful. One of my favorite sights.

  6. Your photo says it all, doesn't it, about being dumbstruck...? I lived in Biloxi on the bay and spent time on the beach growing up, but I had forgotten it all by the time I returned to the beach at the age of 18. My two friends and I stayed in an ocean-side condo. It was late when we arrived, but I couldn't wait to throw open my doors, so I could hear the crashing waves as they rushed onto the shore. Your Seaside photos are always so pretty, by the way. I love the color/tint you are using on them.

  7. I can barely stand to look at your pictures! Second day extreme subzero here! So glad for you that you are there and not here. Gah! It's INSANE!!!!!

I don't remember being dumbstruck and my first trip was only a few years ago. I was more like a running, squealing, freakish display of "OMG!!! Can you believe? Look at it!! It's AMAZING!!! OMG!!! OMG!!!! ~ squeeeeee!!!!!!)

Ha ha ha! It was the kids that gazed calmly in amazement.

Gorgeous photos. Thanks for the dreamy share.

  9. Your jumping pictures make me smile. Oh, I, too, adore the ocean -- the power of it, the sounds, the color -- everything. And I have to admit, when it's 9 below (that's not the windchill, by the way -- we won't even go there!) -- I sure wish I was there, too!

  13. for someone who lives surrounded by the ocean, it is hard to imagine that some people never get to see and feel the beauty of the beach, the sound of the waves and the instant peace it all brings.

  17. I have been fortunate enough to live near the ocean all my life but I would be even happier to have a house right on the beach!

I believe I spy an Airstream:)
