patience, procrastination, perseverance and people.....

today's the third of april and crap, what?
*
near the end of march, i had dreams of prettying up this space with a new template and banner that would be unveiled on the first of april. i failed. i'm not beating myself up or anything over it, it's just that sometimes procrastination can find its way inside me and run amuck like an ugly virus. time to kick that shit to the curb. spring is here and i want to take my coat off, spread my arms wide and accomplish something, even if it's something relatively tiny and blog related.
*
we are so proud of our son. a class he was taking at school was frustrating him due to the lack of presence and attentiveness from the instructor. after his letters to the dean and a conversation including other kids in the class, the school has made a change. a huge change. we are so incredibly proud to know that our son will and can stand up for what he believes in, for what he knows is right...and wrong...and for the fact that he didn't give up. we are also incredibly pleased with his school, for listening to the students and making a change that was so incredibly needed.
*
we are also so incredibly proud of our daughter. with a major life change, resembling having a rug pulled out from underneath her with enough force to make the ground below her feel harder than concrete and sharper than glass, she is standing tall. her shoulders are back, her smile and laughter endearing as ever and her quick wit is beating us to the punch every time. the world needs to get ready for this brunette bombshell. this girl is on fire.
*
did i tell you i'm volunteering at our local food pantry and that my heart is all warm inside knowing i'm helping to do something that actually makes a difference in the lives of those who live right around me? well, i am and it does.
*
today i have a lunch date with my hubby. maybe i'll put on heels and a trench coat and surprise him.

It's the third time in the day that I'm reading these words, and if I have any sense I should start pondering on them now.

And that was a brave thing your son did, Kudos.

I remember being young and thinking I cannot wait to be a grown-up..all my worries and troubles will disappear and I will have freedom to do what I want , when I want...The last decade, (no 15 years YIKES) has delivered trial after trial and lately I have taken to muttering I wish I wasn't a grown-up anymore....My darling girl is bombarded at the moment with her trials and worries and yesterday said to me.."this grown up thing sucks.." I'm happy to hear your kids are dealing with their trials and carrying on. We all must persevere, carry on, suck it up, deal with it, and have the patience to absorb and understand all this grown up stuff. As for me?

I'll be in my blanket tent, coloring, thank you very much.

  5. Your kids sound just wonderful -- strong and committed and brave like their mom! Three cheers to you and John for raising them to be the people they are and ones you can be proud of. Sometimes it feels as though that day will never come -- isn't it fun when it does?

I'm trying to carve out new banner and template time, too. Someday.

I'm hoping the proverbial rug that was pulled, was not THAT rug. :-(

I look forward to your new blog look reveal, whenever that may be.

  10. Laughing out loud at that last line. And secretly hoping that you did it, or that you will do it someday. That is so something I would have done (about 30 pounds ago . . . )

Sorry I've been MIA. Life just kicks ya to the curb sometimes, dontchaknow. Do I sound like a Wisconsite?

  15. Hooray for your son stepping up and speaking out. That can be a bit intimidating at times. And about our good friend procrastination... It keeps me spinning around in circles for the most part. We're pretty tight.
