my little lover's liver....

sophie has been sick.
after catching kennel cough {at the kennel} she had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic she was taking...or at least they're hoping that's all that it is.
 it has affected her liver.
she'll be back in for more lab work this friday. if her levels haven't changed, then it will be determined that it wasn't an allergic reaction and something else is going on in her body.
at fifteen, that could be almost anything.
in the mean time she has been on fluid treatments and a liver detoxing vitamin and we've been dealing with constant potty breaks, throw up, yucky poops and no appetite.
on a good day, she'll eat a pop-tart and some chicken for me, followed by a doggie treat.
on a bad day, she'll eat nothing but a handful of cheerios, but still wants her doggie treat as a dessert.
~
so we're taking it a day at a time.
watching her one minute, act like a puppy and the next, like a little old lady
who just can't get comfortable.
~
thank you, all of you, for the wonderful comments yesterday,
both here and on the finally me blog.
you truly made me feel special.

  1. I so hope that Sophie feels better soon! My Kaja is 16years old now and each time she does something weird - which is often - we get nervous but she has pulled through each time:)

  3. Aw. Poor pup. Hugs to her.

Did I comment on yesterday's post? Did I comment on the link? Ha! I know I read it and followed the link and read more. Probably got lost in reading at that point and forgot to comment. More than two steps and I'm wandering. Belated congrats!

  5. Poor Sophie, I am so sorry to hear of her illness. Poor you too, having to deal with it and all the worry it must cause. I hope it turns out to be nothing much and that she's back to health soon.

  6. Oh, I'm so sorry.
I really hate when the "kids" get sick, it's hard not knowing how they feel and they always want to get up from their comfy spot and come over to greet you. At least when one of the humans is sick, I have an idea what's going on.
    Let's hope it's a bad reaction.

  16. If she is still taking a doggie treat thats a good sign in my book....Our Rottweiler was 12 and came down with kidney trouble. Her absolute FAVORITE food was Kibbles and bits and bits........and when she wouldn't eat that.........Big big hugs to you girlfriend....i'm sending you all the best wishes...Hugs! deb

  24. Oh Beth, I sure hope Sophie is better soon.
I know how this goes, as we have a 16-year-old little toy poodle (Bert), who is not well (all the things having to do with age).

  26. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. When my Miyagi had a bone caught in his upper gum...I literally sat in the hallway, tears running down my face, rubbing his head until he calmed down enough to catch a quick catnap. I hated it that he felt so bad.

  27. Oh, Beth -- catching up and feeling so very concerned for you and for Sophie. I know that panic, that watchfulness, that concern. And it aches and you cry. Or you try not to. But you want to. I'm sending you the best prayers I know and asking my kitty angel to throw in a few from the rainbow bridge to keep your sweet girl with you and improved.
