obviously a love hate relationship....

i put birdseed out for the wrens and the finches.
unfortunately mr. crow thinks if he looks at me, touches the dish and calls dibs, it's all his.

no matter how full the dish is,
he will eat every seed until it's empty. he's greedy like that.

underneath our deck the barn swallows are nesting. they despise mr. crow.
in fact, they dive bomb him instantly whenever he shows up
and they continue to pester him during his entire meal.
mr. crow doesn't care.

mr. crow likes me. yesterday for an afternoon snack i gave him pretzels and he loved that.
it's probably wrong to love a crow isn't it?

  4. Yes, it's wrong to love a crow. But if loving him is wrong, you probably don't wanna be right.
    Right?

yes, crows are sneaky and conniving but extremely clever and smart.... my guess is the latter that you are drawn to :)

  9. Beth- your photos lately have just blown me away.
Thank you. I get frustrated by the grackles and doves and sparrows and the odd crow . But on the other hand?

  10. Gosh, Mr. Crow is big enough to be a pet. I bet you can train him. Love the shot with him holding the seed in his beak. And also the one of the swallow doing a fly-by warning.

  13. I have 3 bad boys who visit. All my other birds hate it when they come strutting into the yard. I know crows are incredibly smart and I should encourage their visits but I shoo them away. I know, bad me. But I love my chickadees, cardinals, finches and woodpeckers more.
Your pics are beautiful, especially the one with the bird flying away in the background!

I can see loving one crow. A gang of them would be a problem.

  20. Congrats on your POTW. The swallows hate Mr. Crow because he has been know to rob eggs from the nests of birds as part of his meal.

  21. I don't blame you for loving him - who could resist that much personality? Congrats on the POTW!!
