i named him norman...

yes, this is a fingerling potato.
personally, i think it looks like a dog. the kind with a stumpy tail.
he only has one eye. but at least now he can run.
~
{if you are totally lost, read the post before this one, so you don't think i'm a total freak}

in case you were wondering what our early fall looks like, i took some photos just for you.
believe me, i love, like really open mouth kiss love summer.
but fall steals my heart every year.
it has a gentleness about it...even a bit of innocence.
and
if i were looking for a man at "i need somebody bad dot com"
those are two of the qualities i'd list first.
~
then of course i'd have to add "must be able to deal with quirky things like making small animals out of potatoes" which would immediately narrow the playing field down to about zero.
~
it's a wonderful thing that i'm already married.

see the yellow leaves. swoon.
now if they could just hang on a bit longer.

and
between me and you...
i love dried up flowers more then i love flowers that are alive.
~
please tell me that's not weird, too. i mean i know the potato thing is well, different, but you like dead flowers, too. right ?

  1. Did your husband know you were a freak before you married him?? tee hee!

Mine knew I was and loved me anyway. Thing is, I didn't learn he was a bigger freak than me until after we were head over heels! What a pair we are!

Gotta run now. Goin' to get my freak on!

p.s. gorgeous shots. cute puppy. lovely flower ;)
p.p.s. love your little ways. they make me smile inside and out.

  3. OMG...I am still laughing...you are so fresh and saucy!!!!

I don't know if it's weird to like dried up flowers better than flowers that are alive...but I do know that I see something beautiful in them either way (kind of like when I look in a mirror now vs. a photo of myself from 30 years ago...).

And that potato, or should I say "Norman" does look like a dog with a stumpy tail...a one eyed, stumpy tailed potato...I see it, clear as day!!! xo

  6. Your husband is the lucky one...having a big hearted sweet and funny girl around him along for the ride has to make for really awesome times...He knew it the moment he saw you :-)
    Love dead flowers too...

  8. Even in Holland the flowers are wilting, the north wind doth blow and the leaves are a-fallin'. Pumpkins are everywhere in the fields, no time for fotos, I'm on my way to France tomorrow. Wonder if the flowers are dying there? Let you know. :) Jenny

  14. I love the weirdness of Norman. You are tooooo funny! Dried flowers, now that is not so weird. I just took a picture of a dried hydrangeas and was wondering if I would put it on the blog. Love the photo with the fence. We had summer this past week, but this morning now I am beginning to feel a touch of autumn in the air.

  16. Ohhh I am soooooo loving the beginning of fall. And I cannot wait for the temp to drop just a bit more so I can actually wear a sweater!!! Yippee. And no, you are not weird for liking dried flowers...strange, yes! Weird? No! :)

  17. Oh you are too funny! Come on over to my blog...your post led me to break out my own potato photo. (Glad I'm not the only one who photographs potatoes!)

I'm with you - summer is my absolute favorite, but I have a love affair with the in-betweens. Whenever the seasons change, I love the differences in the smell of the air, leaves, grass, flowers. And I love when the leaves change colors! Anyway, thanks for the laugh tonight!

  18. Oh, and I love dead flowers too. I have two huge shoe boxes that contain all the dried rose petals from every rose arrangement my husband ever sent me. And you thought you were weird, huh? I took them down from the top of the closet the other day and thought, really, am I REALLY keeping these?

  19. Oh sure......if I saw that potato on a table.....The first thing I would think is it is a dog....ah huh....yep, sure!!
Tell your husband to hang in there.

  24. i love that you love things that are not in the first bloom of perfection.

and that you see animals in oddly shaped potatoes (my husband always sees things in half-eaten toast. go figure.)

  25. Beth,

I love fall too! It's my favorite time of year. I've been back to AZ for three years and miss seeing the leaves change more than anything in the world. My partner and I are getting in the car and doing a six week hike/search for some leaves changing starting in October and I just can not wait! Seeing those leaves falling and changing is such a great reminder to get rid of the old and let the new in.

I love your potato dog. I can totally see him too. I was at superhero.com's journal and she did a post of pics full of her obsession with seeing faces and animals in food. I think you'd love it.
