hip hip hooray...it's a give away...times two

the amazing and talented mary beth shaw
is giving away another copy of her new book
and
lucky me
i'm hosting this week's give away
~
mary beth and i have known each other since 2005. the hubby and i were living in st. louis then and met mb at a fantastic art show, when we bought some of her artwork from her. after that first meeting, it seemed like every art show we went to, there she was and she ended up calling us her
"art show stalkers."
then
we moved to wisconsin and i thought our stalking days were over, but that was short lived as she ended up having her booth in madison's largest and super amazing art fair on the square
and
as soon as we saw each other, we just laughed. we were still stalking her, even if she did come to us.

{2009 at katherine's house}

i can't even begin to tell you everything she has done with her career, but it has sky rocketed. from selling her art, teaching, designing her own line of stencils to writing a book. she hasn't stopped moving from the day i met her. she's what we call a firecracker. or a little spitfire.
~
when she was writing her book, she asked me if i wanted to add some of my artwork to it and at that point, the artist in me was long gone, as the photographer in me had taken over, so i said "bless you for being so sweet, but photography is where my heart is" and she totally understood. she never did ask me for one of my recipes. obviously she knows that i don't cook.
{mary beth, me, elena, katherine}

lucky for me, one of the places she teaches at is valley ridge art studio, which is only about 75 minutes from my house. so last year i was lucky enough to take her class and even though she taught me and a room full of eager women for two full paint filled days, by the end i had mostly learned that i can't even begin to do what she does. not even close. please, give me a camera any day instead.
~
so for this give away
leave a comment here telling me either your number one favorite art supply that you can't live without or your one, all time favorite food that would crush you if you could never eat it again.
~
a winner
will be drawn monday morning
so you have until sunday night to leave your comment
AND
then you can head over to mary beth's blog to win a give away on her blog
{hint: it's one of my all time favorite photos printed in an 8x10}
~or smaller if that works better for you~
~
whew
i think i gave you all the information you need
now
go ahead
and
play play play
*
ps....you can enter this give- away once a day through sunday because we're nice that way

  3. Great giveaway. I recently became passionate about photography so feel as though I couldn't live without my camera. That said I also create artwork and my favorite tool is my fingers!

As for food I have a crazy sweet tooth and would die without candy or desserts.

  10. great story Beth! fav art supply: my sewing machine. Of my machines that I've loved dearly: my fav. is an old Kenmore, that's probably older than me. It's a work horse that's done me well.

  12. This is rather generic but I certainly would not live long without pasta...any kind of pasta will do but I have to have it regularly:)

  13. When I'm feeling especially creative, I make my own greeting cards with vintage ribbons and lace. I love Fabri-tac, it works great. I like what you said about photography being where your heart is--although I dabble in papercrafts, writing is my passion.

  14. My favorite supplies are my vintage ribbons and vintage buttons I suppose. I use them more than anything else though my paints for my new mixed media course are rising on the hit charts...

  18. Oh, this is lovely! :) Such a wonderful tale of friendship.

I could not live without my Lamy fountain pen. And for food? I would die without greek yogurt and honey.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What a lovely tribute to a friend! Now you have me excited to go and check out her blog too :) Favorite food- pizza and it does not bode well for my newly developed Vegan diet, but we'll see if I can find an alternative for a gluten free, dairy free, meat free, pizza- now that just sounds all kinds of wrong and that plan may go out the window and I'll just eat pizza :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I guess it's my camera that I can't live without. And the one food? Dark chocolate!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. So fun that you two teamed up for this !!!

  22. Your blog is such a wonderful antidote to my days!
So sorry I never met you when you were here in the Lou - and I'm not yet ready to move to WI - altho my relatives in Algoma have almost convinced me!

Couldn't adjust to a world in which I could never eat another deep red cherry! (and the world has asked for enough concessions already!)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love my calligraphy pen, even though I sometimes go months without any contact with it. But that's okay, because it faithfully waits for me while I eat my fave Cowboy Beans & Rice!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Right now, I'm investigating what things I can make/use with hemp twine, mostly just bracelets, or tying up pretty little packages.

  26. You stalker, you! What a great story and wonderful way to recognize Mary Beth -- can't wait to check out her work! My favorite-can't-live-without-art supply is Golden Gel Medium. All weights. And it transcends art projects -- I've fixed stuff in the house with it, jewelry, you name it. I know I don't have to do food, but if I would be at a loss without something it would be lemons (or rather, anything in which lemon plays a key role!) Fun idea!

    ReplyDelete

  32. Hello again, the one food I would be crushed not to have anymore would be cheese (any kind of cheese) preferably eaten with a bit of bread. Chocolate is definitely close second.

    ReplyDelete
  34. have you missed me??? :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. since I'm entering again cuz you said we could once a day, I guess I need to come up with another food to not live without.... does wine count as food. A really nice glass of a full body red does so much. Much more than about 1 1/2 defeats the purpose......

    ReplyDelete
  36. is a blank white card. I love to make home made cards for friends and as soon I see that all white piece of paper folder into two I get inspired instantly.

my food choice would have to be lime macaroons. They seems to make me swoon at site, and after the taste, well then I feel like I'm in another place and time.

    ReplyDelete

  45. I wanted to say pizza was my favorite food, but after I gave it some serious thought, my final decision would have to be pierogies. Sauteed, boiled, baked, slathered with butter and onions, stuffed with potatoes, cheese, onions, whatever, who couldn't love these delicious little dumplings!?

  54. darn, I forgot to enter yesterday..... oh well... another food that has become invaluable lately... greek yogurt.... I don't necessarily love it but it provides great protein on the good without which I would plummet by 10 am. (I know I prob don't have to keep naming foods.. but I like to keep in the spirit of things :) )

    ReplyDelete
