when old feels better...

this isn't really a tutorial. but i wanted to share something with you.
~
the hubby and i went out for a little drive yesterday and as beautiful as the sky was and as great as the barn was that caught my eye. it left me empty. or at least wanting more.
~
what i really wanted
was for this photo to look old enough to be held in arthritic hands
while a story of what happened in this barn years ago
was shared with me.
in order to do that
changes had to made
~
i felt i had to get rid of the dirt pile in the lower front right hand corner
{only because it bugged me}
and
the sign in the dried prairie grass.
then the "will call sheriff" sign on the door
{which made me laugh}
felt out of place. so i got rid of that.
there was also a large square cement box on the bottom right of the barn
that my eyes kept going to. so i made that disappear too.
~
after all of those things were cloned over. i was ready to play.
so with a few "old" colors added and an aged texture
the photo became what i had envisioned in the first place.
*
i'm kind of thinking about doing something like
"make it pretty" mondays in march
where all of you can join me on mondays and we can share what we did to a photo
to make it better. to change it. to make it pretty.
what do you think
?

  10. The "old" photo has such character - yes, it does seem that it would have an ancient story to tell. I like to fiddle sometimes, too, using a so-so photo to tell a more muted or vivid story.

  11. So I wandered around, past the barn, past the old camera, and over and around all your posts and photographs. Purrhaps, looking like something akin to a tumbleweed, without direction or purpose. But being a cat and NOT a tumbleweed, I was able to enjoy, REALLY enjoy your little world here. And so I shall become a follower and take naps in the beautiful old barn when ever I come over fur a visit now and then. In the meantime, just wanted you to know that your photography is wonderful and your posts inspiring.....yes, even to a cat....well, maybe a cat AND "her"...

    Have a great week!

    Purrs!

  14. There are times when that cloning tool comes in so handy.. this certainly was one of them. You did a great job of aging this image.

  20. You did a great job of adjusting the picture. Aging the look changed it so much. The thing that interests me is that you saw it this way in the first place.

  24. Nice changes, I agree with you. And I love the texture work. It's always fun to work with a barn shot and lovely textures. There is a barn near me that I love to photograph. But it has some of the same issues. There is a large neon orange windsock flying from the top of it, and a large sign for a RC airplane club on one end. I have to clone it all out everytime.
I'd love to participate in a make it pretty link up.

  28. Don't you love that we have this kind of creative freedom to play with our images and make them truly our own? I remember the first time I saw someone remove an object out of an image..I couldn't believe my eyes..that that was possible! It is such a wonderful thing.
