actually
for reverb 10 day 2
which was yesterday
it's
"what gets in the way of your writing and can you eliminate it"
~
simply put
i get in the way. it's me. i'm in the way.
and
no. i'm not going anywhere.
~
i'm 46 and growing up that many years ago, there wasn't the term "attention deficit disorder"
if there had been, i would have worn that label.
~
i have a hard time focusing. it's that simple. and i often hear
"people like you...you know...the artsy type, all have trouble focusing. it's a trait"
~
really. is it.
~
i often feel that my brain is like an 8 lane highway and my thoughts are the cars weaving in and out of traffic, occasionally flipping each other off. silently i scream things like brake, take the next exit, pull over to the side, slow down, there's a rest stop. doesn't somebody have to pee.
and
when that doesn't work i pray that they all run out of gas. at the same time.
~
believe me. i love to write. but it takes work. and on those days when finally my favorite car veers of that busy highway and takes a road less traveled. a quaint country road where noisy mice play in the crooked barns that work so hard to stand proud in the golden rolling fields where they were born. my words flow.
~
they flow like a river
and
writing happens. notebooks are filled. notecards scatter.
and
i feel alive

LOL! you have segued right into the 3rd prompt.
ReplyDeletemonkey mind can be a problem, but, as you see, you just wrote about that, so you must learn to use that. actually, i think you just did.

Great visuals in this one. Your 8-lane highway was going in the right / write direction here. :)
ReplyDeleteWriting is both process and discipline. But Beth, my dear, you also write without words via your images. Ever think of that, huh?
ReplyDeleteWriting requires tremendous focus, but worse (for me anyway & I'm guessing plenty of others) is the bright shiny object of the internets that distracts from that focus. I'd probably write a whole lot more if my computer had nothing but WORD!
ReplyDeleteomg. ditto. times two. or four.
ReplyDeleteVery well said, btw.

ReplyDeleteI hear ya sistah!
ReplyDeleteokay, you made me just laugh right out loud. I love that photo, love it. but i love what you wrote even more. day 2 was a tough one, but you whipped right through it. i think i live on that same eight lane highway., toot your horn if you pass me!
ReplyDeleteA friend recently described me as having Art A.D.D. so I can definitely relate.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really lovely scene. looks cold :) nice capture
ReplyDeleteI love having the time for distractions now that I'm retired now. Following a thought and where it takes me is so good. That was considered a luxury when I was a mother, teacher and chief breadwinner. It took a lot of discipline to do it. I think I must have been Art A.D.D all my life but no one told me. I just had to deal with it to survive and keep my children, five of them. You've given me a lot to ponder. Thanks. xxoo Jenny
ReplyDeleteLOL... I believe I would have worn that label too. But it keeps the creative juices going. Let's not talk about the ten things Im' thinking about or worrying about or planning or thinking about making or did I remember to do this?..and what am I making for dinner and did I return that e-mail? and I'de love to make THIS but I have to go to the craft store for THAT and ... yeah. So.
ReplyDeleteoh this is a big undertaking..there seem to be many bloggers doing this ..love your photos as always !!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore your writing and photography. I wish I was as artsy. Carry on, great one.
ReplyDeletewriting certainly has its own challenges, doesn't it? yours is beautifully set against all your wonderful photographs.
ReplyDeletelove the two words you chose for this year and next in the post below. i especially think the end of this year has been bumpy but i'm hoping for many open ended days ahead.
that video link is precious. i love watching stories of family members being reunited with their families.
hope all is well. have a great night~
Beth...every time I come visit you here, I never sense the traffic jam you must be feeling sometimes when you try to write...I am always amused, touched and stimulated with your verbal photography alongside your amazing photos...it is always seamless to me. and the flow carries me away into a dreamy place I like to be. carry on...stay alive, and keep writing, shooting and sharing
ReplyDeleteI so love this....can SO relate!
ReplyDeleteI think every wordsmith
wrestles and sweats
alongside you....don't
know one writer who doesn't struggle
(not one I enjoy, anyway)
YOU, I enjoy:)
Cheering you on,
Jennifer
hi you did focus right? A blade of grass near the car wheel ... made so sublime. That tells us a lot of nice things about you.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that is what is wrong with me too...lol...I lose my focus easily and when it is loud and busy I have learned to not even try...regardless of your focusing issues your words always seem to flow together perfectly. Happy weekend. XX
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. We get in our own way!
ReplyDeleteIt is the writing that teaches us. I just love the progression...

You make a lot of sense-- I must realllly be in my way these days-- but I'm glad you found yours. This post made me smile.
ReplyDeleteCheers, jj
Beth I love you just the way you are. You're a gal that thinks and creates outside the box.
ReplyDeleteReading this I smiled, you are just such a wonderful soul, the way you described your thoughts in your head....yep I understand that. hugs.
ReplyDeletei understand this totally.
ReplyDeleteYou do seem like the type of person who thinks about many things at the same time and you can achieve many things. Being able to describe your inner strengths and weaknesses shows you are in touch with your creative side to the max. I like to see your photos and read your words and most of the time am in awe of all you have to share.
ReplyDeleteBeth I was in the midst of researching "writing" and in the odd, strange, 'how did I get here' kind of way that happens on the Internet I found you via this post. (forgive the running sentence - I tend to write as I think - oh my, be afraid, lol)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written, this.
The image ~ equally striking.
Without doubt I'll be returning....
(provided I don't get lost on MY wacko winding 8 lane highway which is, additionally, always undergoing some sort of construction, roflmao)
How wonderful to wade through the blocks and come out the other side feeling alive.
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult doing it every day, isn't it? But how wonderful when it flows like a river.
ReplyDeleteI have trouble concentrating too and have noticed it more and more lately. Maybe the fact that I've just turned 54 is playing into it. Trying not to let it get me down.
I write everyday because that's my job. But it's not my heart, though I love it. When it comes to doing my own thing, the Gypsy is the writing I want to do and the art is the "thing" I want to do. And I get in my own way more than anyone. But that's true of just about anything in my world. Don't we all? Sometimes?
ReplyDeleteMy husband can do two things at once.... he always tells me that I have a very linear brain. One thing at a time or I get confused and can't focus. It's not always an A.D.D. thing.
ReplyDeleteBut then, sometimes I get lost right in the middle of a sentence... now, what was I saying? LOL

No matter what your process, no matter how you do it, your writing is absolutely beautifully original, and so very you.
