i must confess....

i have two lovers. fall has made his presence known. he's here in the morning when i wake up and he comes back late in the day and stays with me all night. but summer and i sneak out in the afternoons for a just a couple of hours.
~
is it wrong to still walk hand in hand with summer around the pond after lunch. is it wrong to let him breathe warm sweet whispers on my neck in the afternoon while i read on the sunporch. is it wrong to let him tease me the way he does.
~
i think not
~
he tells me to give into fall. that he's a wonderful lover, too. but i know that fall doesn't stay as long as he should. he never does. and eventually his replacement shows up and we don't get along very well. winter takes my breath away but not in the way a gentle lover does.
~
so
i'm not angry at summer for having to leave. i'm actually more upset that fall won't stay as long as i'd like. so right now while i have my afternoon flings with summer, fall just can't complain. i'd give myself to him completely if he promised me that he'd stay through november, but he never does. and he's smart enough to not make promises that he can't keep.
~
so my affair continues again today. i think we're going to the zoo. and funny enough everyone seems to be doing the same thing. i see them. out for lunch. walking in the park. they're just like me. doing the same thing. but they don't talk about it.

  2. hahaha very nice read. Have fun, they are both true friends. Fall is here a season of festivals and family gathering and colourful dahlias and asters.

  3. I so enjoy your writing, I'd have to lovers at the same time too, if Autumn and Spring were side by side ;-)

  4. Ahhhh summer, parting is such sweet sorrow. But I have to agree, we just barely become accustomed to fall and she leaves... us with the cold.

  14. Torn between two lovers... Yes, I wish fall would hang in there longer -- soon that Winter guy comes in and he's about as abusive as they get. I keep telling myself I could always leave... they always say that.

  15. I love your writing Beth, I guess I am having an affair with summer too. every afternoon I get about 2 hours sitting in one of the chairs in the yard, I actually fell asleep and have a bit of a burn,,,,maybe I am flushed from the emotions...lol. and I agree that darn fall does not stick around long enough. one year we did not have snow until the day before Christmas...so I hope fall stays around long enough...maybe I can seduce fall to stay, have fun, at least we can all share, but that is another post lol. hugs.

  18. Beth, I always go outside and put my face up to the sun or the light of day and try to soak up whatever color that day may be. I often have a hard time making up my mind which season is my favorite. As I age I can find beauty in each. As long as I can stay warm I like winter's beauty with it's quiet after a snow. But I do believe Summer and Fall are also my favorite too. But mostly I've learned to cherish each day and the beauty it holds. Thank you once again for your amazing words, you are brilliant.

  31. Your problem is shared by many.....(smiles). Life's impossible sometimes isn't it?

Congratulations on your Post of the Week mention.

  32. Very nice. Congratulations on your potw. Myself, I like them all. I almost wish I could have each season for an equal 3 months. My wife, however, would be fine to let winter go and have 3 seasons only.

But a whiskey by the fire tastes so much better in winter, I think.

  33. Congrats on you wonderful post.

  34. I have to say it again, I just have to...
    I LOVE your mind.

Where do you come up with all this good stuff?

  35. That was fantastic, and really accessible. I think everyone reading it was right there with you, feeling the words. That's such a gift to have and thank you for sharing it.

As autumn tries to lead me away, I keep trying to clutch at summer, myself. So for me the Fall is my abductor. Then Winter and Spring can lead me to my real love once more :0(
