there's always that one...

he's nasty and mean
and
has the power to scare away the woodpeckers that are three times his size
but
he's the only one who does gymnastic like maneuvers
~a round off with a back hand spring and then off to the uneven bars~
on the bird feeder
so he kind of makes me laugh
but
oh
he's nasty
and
when i'm trying to take photos
while the feeder is filled with every species imaginable
like a cheap motel
on the weekends
and
with one quick fly by
like tom cruise
in top gun
he completely unsettles the feeders and sends everyone running for the hills
well
let's just say
oh
let's just say
he still makes me laugh
~~
damn him

  11. Love nuthatches. They don't seem as tough in our back yard. The jays take them on.

Very cool photo. Love how you do the texture. I sooo want to learn how to do that...

  15. Oh those nasty birds that scare the others away. Lately out my window I am seeing the big black crows scary the other more beautiful birds away from the feeders. We love placing ourselves behind the window watching their antics, me and my cat Joey. You can see Joey just twitching in anticipation of getting those birds to run away.

  19. I am thinking only you can make birds at a bird feeder (motel) sound sexy. lol. great photo, that is what our blue jays do up here, scare everything away...next time I will think of Tom Cruise. Have a great weekend. loved this post.

  20. Fabulous shot, Beth! What length was your lens, do you know?

Sorry to hear about your recent scare, too. Glad the pain is gone!

  21. Oh I'm so gladd you've cauth the dare devil. I adore them for there tricks and boldness.

And it's not that I'm throwing the towel in because of my looks (thanks for your sweet words I couldn't care less what others think of me and my looks, I am who I am wheater they like it or not) but because never ever I got one right when it came to focus....grrrr it's to hard. To be up and running over constantly and then returning to the camera and find out only half of me is on it, or when it's out of focus.

Well I'll guess I need a lot of practise...Hugs Dagmar

  24. I know that bird!
They are awful and fascinating at the same time. Fowl creatures.

  25. maybe it's because the nuthatch spends so much of it's life going the opposite direction ...

    ReplyDelete
  26. How could you not love his antics, he is full of the flying floozy seediness.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow - a nasty nuthatch?! Ours are all like church boys - perfectly behaved, timid, and modest. I'd love to see your ferocious little guy!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well plus, you know... he is famous now. Hundreds of people coming over to see him in all his nastiness, and yet I can still see where one could technically laugh at him :)

The contrasts in the picture are striking!

  33. Those nuthatches move so fast. It's difficult to get a good photo of them. But they do pack a lot of chutzpah in one little bird!

  34. Cool shot. I used to enjoy watching the birds at our feeders, but our cat population got to large. Feeding birds to bring them close to cats..bad idea.
We kept the cats but stopped feeding the birds

  41. He may be nasty and mean, but he's also incredibly gorgeous. Oh, wait. A lot of that is due to you. Gorgeous treatment you've ever shown us. I am love, love, loving that background.
