the good, the bad and too often, the sad....

while watching tv this week
~~
keith urban was adorable on ellen
~
I thought lady ga-ga gave a wonderful interview on oprah
even
after a disastrous wardrobe malfunction during her performance
~
am I the only one
who wants
to put duct tape over elizabeth hasselbeck's mouth
~
ricky gervais hosted the golden globes
and
even though I love him and think he's hysterically funny
I don't think anyone appreciated the job he did
~
on the bachelor
well I don't even want to admit I watch it
but I do
and
so far I love tenley
and
was it completely perfect when michelle's bluff was called and she walked out
~
yippee
there's only 21 more days until the olympics
~
I will miss him terribly
and
american idol will never ever EVER be the same
once simon leaves
~
tonight
the
huge celebrity fundraiser
for haiti
~organized by george clooney~
will be on every channel
with no commercial interruptions
and
I plan on being front and center
with a big bowl of popcorn
for the entire show
~
when an anonymous person
chartered a plane this week to get 53 orphans out of haiti
~47 of them with adoption papers being expedited~
I stood up and cheered
but
when an injured little girl's mother
was told her daughter's arm would have to be amputated
due to the extent of her injury
she cried out to the sky
that she would rather see her child die
than have to see her live as an amputee in haiti
and
then
I cried

  3. Cool rundown! But a good lesson in appreciation-I don't understand that mom's thought process.

  4. not a big tv person, but I will watch the fundraisers. and of course have been watching as things unfold in Haiti. and considering adoption, which of course is crazy, but things have gone from unbearable to inhumane.

thx for the visit and the kind words btw.

  5. Phew...
    I am in information, heartache overload...("The Bachelor" though ?Seriously ? ;) )
I think I will just watch movies this weekend or Gilmore Girls on DVD... I have already stopped watching the news coverage - it makes me feel like they are showing a sick circus or a freak show sometimes...just toooooo much !
I know that I am so lucky that I can just turn it all off for a while to re-coup...when they certainly cannot.
My heart works better at sending love and prayers when the ache level is a bit lower...
I hope you have a weekend full of more good than sad and bad...
    Love to you !

  6. I would not only like to put duct tape over Hasselbeck's mouth, I'd like to stand her in the corner with a HUGE dunce cap.

I appreciated Ricky Gervais. I laughed and laughed and laughed. It was even better after he crossed the line with NBC and knew he wouldn't be invited for a return gig!

  7. My secret guilty pleasure is watching Survivor...the original and have watched it since the beginning:)

I plan on watching the special tonight but I cannot watch more tradgedies...I just can't absorb it and function...

  8. Enjoyed your recap! I enjoy television however when I sit down to watch I fall asleep :) I am a huge fan of Ricky Gervais.

I lose sleep over tragedies and have to limit myself to making a donation and saying some prayers.

  11. Oh... you are so calling me out... I can relate to almost every, single, show, you mentioned here... yikes. I haven't watched The View in eons but due to being sick I turned it on and was appalled at how she talked over everyone with such nonsense...

Saw Jake talking on ET for a minute... said the worst drama has not aired yet and he looked a little sick when he said it :)

  12. I've not been a television watcher, but reading your post, I can see that it's another way of staying connected in a vital way (or can be). Belated congratulations on your 600th post - and the blog that went before as well. AND your wonderful photographs. I didn't realize that this was a comparatively recent passion.

  13. After reading this, I think I'm glad my TV has been in the off mode this week. That poor little child ...

  14. poor baby child. my heart continues to break.

and yes, i cheered with jake grew a pair and showed he may not be as much of a pushover as they thought. but i'm thinking, he didn't pick anyone....just a gut feeling.

the good, the bad, the happy and the sad...i want it all (a song by edwin mccain)

  15. I hadn't heard that story about the plane of orphans--that is such a happy ending.
And yes, that poor mother--to see her daughter live, but as an outcast for her whole life, that's a choice I feel grateful I don't have to make. Ever.

  16. My TV this week consisted of "Human Shield" on Tuesday, White Collar on Wednseday (Nick is adorable, and I was so happy that Peter wasn't the crook), and Ace of Cakes last night. It appears I have some catching up to do.

    Haiti--there are no words.

  17. I have done without TV all week due to basketball games EVERYNIGHT and I kinda liked it but I know that I will go back to my regular broadcasting frenzy on Sunday...my heart broke after reading an article on CNN about the mother looking for her son....It would have happened all over again if I seen this story about the mother and her daughter.

  18. I like these cows :-) Thanks for the tv update ... I don't have one and I have to admit that I do miss it sometimes ... I used to watch American Iol ... it was brilliant for the first few seasons, but then kind of tanked ... I don't think it will last long without Simon, frankly ... I'd like to see the special on Haiti, but guess I won't ....

  19. Didn't know about the show tonight, will be watching too! ...

Haiti is beyond tragedy, Thankfully it seems everyone is reaching out..

  20. Great recount of the week's t.v. Some of it I actually saw. I, too, was thrilled that Michelle left...I was sick of her damn tears!! So sad about the little Haitian girl but very thankful that they are facilitating quick adoptions for others - hope that will continue.

  22. ok, you are making me wish I had tv. Almost...
We discontinued our dish service last June. We love not having it, but once in a while I miss it.

That Haiti story is so sad

  23. Hey Beth, We pretty much totally agree on tv this week :-)

I'm looking forward to the Haiti fund-raiser tonight.

    Have a great weekend.
    xo

  24. Oh Beth, that is so sad about the little girl! My husband has the hockey game on, as soon as he is in bed I have control of the remote, so I know what I will do. Thanks for the update. love the pic.

  25. I couldn't agree more about duct taping that woman.
Idol won't be the same without Idol. One of my families favorite shows. My kids will call, "Did you see that??
And Haiti....no words can express that sadness.

  26. Where have I been the past few days. I have missed you. I so agree with everything here today, even the Bachelor and crying for those in Haiti.

    Congratulations on hitting 600 posts!

  27. Watching Simon is one of my guilty pleasures - although I'm sometimes appalled by his cruelty. And George Clooney is great guy, period!

I hadn't heard those Haiti stories - what a remarkable act of generosity on the one hand, and such wrenching sadness on the other.

  28. I remember watching that about the little girl's arm.
And I was also front & center for the fundraiser that George Clooney organized. Awesome.
    Sucks about Simon.

  29. YOu get the duct tape. I'll sit on her. She won't stand a chance.

  30. ooooooooooo, the ending there kind of made my heart sink. but maybe you should watch chuck tonight at seven (if you're a central time girl) because he's adorable and will make your heart happy.

  33. I am a huge TV watcher too. My cable box was out for a couple of weeks and I thought I would have a hissy because I couldn't record anything. All is good now and I am in touch and roaming all over the TV spectrum.

No, American Idol will never be the same without Simon. It might be the beginning of the end.

  34. I got sucked into watching the Bachelor last night for the very first time...was mindlessly channel surfing and I got stuck there...and I can't figure one girl out..ok two. Vienna seemed way over the top insecure and what is the story with (oh, I forgot her name...the one who showed him around San Francisco)..is she good or not so good? Seems a little bit over confident to me, and a bit mean to the others?
I can't believe I am asking you about this stuff...I don't want to watch...but now I got sucked in!!!
